Abstract:
Abstract:
In a first aspect, the invention relates to a cutting tool comprising a basic body having a insert seat and a rotatable cutting insert (2) applicable in the same, which includes a chip cutting top side (6), a bottom side (7) and a side surface (8), whereby there is a cutting edge (9) in the area between the top side and the side surface. At the bottom side of the cutting insert, a first connecting surface (10) is formed that comprises one or more first, circular ring formations and is arranged to interact with a second connecting surface (11) formed in the basic body (1), which surface has one or more second ring formations, whereby said ring formations are in direct or indirect engagement with each other in order to form a bearing between the cutting insert and the basic body that permits rotation of the cutting insert and simultaneously keep the same in place in an exactly defined position. In a second aspect, the invention also relates to a cutting insert as such.
Abstract:
This combination tool (10) includes a body (12) attachable to a drill press (16) by means of a shaft (14). The body includes an end face (34) for attachment of an abrasive finishing disc (36) and provides a mounting for cutter inserts (40). Each cutter insert includes a horizontal cutting edge (46') and a vertical cutting edge (48'). The cutter inserts (40) are generally rectangular and are mounted to vertical abutment bearing faces (52) on the body, utilizing a single fastener (56).
Abstract:
An indexable insert (10, 100, 140, 210, 302) has one or more recesses (26, 106, 146, 322) formed in a frontside (14, 144) or backside (16) surface which receives a surface of the head of a locking screw (110, 150, 212, 304). When mounted, the insert (10, 100, 140, 210, 302) is forced against respective support surfaces (306, 308) of an insert pocket (206, 300). The locking screw (110, 150, 212, 304) is threaded into a counterbored tap hole (214, 310) to engage the insert (10, 100, 140, 210, 302) and provide side locating forces and clamping forces to secure the indexable insert (10, 100, 140, 210, 302) in the insert pocket (206, 300). More particularly, the indexable insert (10, 100, 140, 210, 302) has a shaped surface recess (26, 106, 146, 322) that mates to a complimentarily-shaped surface on the head of a locking screw (110, 150, 212, 304) and secures the indexable insert (10, 100, 140, 210, 302) in multiple dimensions to a seating surface (306, 308). A material removal tool (200, 400, 500) and a method of mounting the indexable insert are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A rotatable cutting tool (10) has a shank portion for coupling to a tool driving device and a cutting portion in which are retained plural replaceable cutting inserts, each insert having at least one cutting edge. The shank portion includes a mounting face for removeably supporting an insert mounting disk having plural recesses at the periphery thereof for receiving the replaceable inserts. Each recess provides at least one seating surface for an insert, and includes opposing face portions between which an insert is releasably retained. The disk includes a central bore and radial grooves, at least one radial groove connecting the central bore and each insert receiving recess. The disk includes a concave central portion surrounding the central bore. A clamping means secures the disk to the shank and is used to elastically deform the concavity of the disk, whereby clamping forces are built and relaxed on all inserts placed in the disk concurrently by adjustment of the clamping means.
Abstract:
The proposed device for mounting cutting inserts of different dimensions or cassettes holding such inserts in a modular cutting instrument comprises a main unit (7) into a groove (6) of which are mounted the cutting inserts (8, 9) or cassettes (10) holding them on two mutually perpendicular surfaces (4, 5) with the aid of fastening screws (1) and clamp elements. One of these mutually perpendicular surfaces (5) is parallel to the front surfaces of the cutting inserts (8, 9), provided with a pliant element and an adjusting screw (16) with a conical head (17) mounted in the threaded aperture (18) of the main body (7) and designed to co-operate with the pliant element. The main body (7) is provided with an oval funnel-shaped aperture (20) which accommodates the conical head (17) of the adjusting screw (16); the fastening screws (1) likewise have conical heads (2) and the clamp elements are blocks (3) with planes designed to be contiguous with the cutting inserts (8, 9) and fitted in the groove (6) of the main body (7) of the cutting instrument so as to allow self-adjustment relative to the cutting inserts (8, 9) or cassettes (10) holding them. The main body (7) and blocks (3) have surfaces co-operating with the conical heads (2) of the fastening screws (1) and forming funnel-shaped apertures of preferably oval cross section when the unit is assembled. The planes of the blocks (3) contiguous with the cutting inserts (8, 9) or cassettes (10) holding them are provided with cylindrical recesses (15) along the height of the block (3) and the pliant element is a connecting strip (21).
