Abstract:
A cutter unit (1) for a rotary shaver is formed by an outer cutting element or cap (2) which interacts with a rotating inner cutting element or cutter (4) to trap and cut hairs. The cap has an annular shaving track (8) of domed cross-section having slots (30) through which the hairs may protrude. The cutter has a convex upper face (22) to engage the shaving track and a concave forward face (26).

Abstract:
The invention relates to a cutting element (10), such as used in an electric shaver. The cutting element is made from stainless steel with a hardened surface layer (14) over at least part of its surface, and is characterized, in that the cutting end face (11) of the element comprises a,surface layer of hardened steel at least over its cutting edge (12), the rest of the end face comprising the stainless steel. The cutting element has self-sharpening and wear adjustable characteristics. The invention also relates to a method for producing the cutting element, and to an electric shaver comprising at least one cutting element according to the invention.
Abstract:
Shaving apparatus having a skin contact surface (9,15,16) accommodating at least one cutting unit (3) comprising an external stationary cutting member (4) and a matching internal cutting member (6) and a device (18-20) for providing a shaving aid to said skin contact surface (9,15,16), wherein shaving aid retaining means (35,48) are provided on at least part of said skin contact surface (9,15,16).
Abstract:
A shaving apparatus having an external cutting member (4) and an internal cutting member (5), which is rotationally drivable with respect to said external cutting member, which internal cutting member is supported on the external cutting member both by an axial and a radial bearing means, the internal cutting member (5) being in axially interlocking engagement with the external cutting member (4), the internal cutting member and the external cutting member having cooperating cutting edges for severing hairs, and the shaving apparatus further having a drive member (28) for driving the internal cutting member. In operation, in order to minimize the frictional losses between the internal and the external cutting member, the drive member (28) exerts on the internal cutting member (5) exclusively a force for rotationally driving the internal cutting member, while the drive member does not exert any axial force on the internal cutting member.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a component from a high-strength blank metal strip or sheet (MS) having a tensile strength of at least 850 MPa. The method comprises reducing the thickness (T) of the strip or sheet (MS) in a folding section (FS) so that a shaped section (SS) having a predetermined shape is obtained in at least a part of the folding section (FS). The strip or sheet (MS) is then folded along the shaped section (SS), so that a surface of a first section (1S) becomes arranged adjacent and parallel to a surface a the second section (2S) of the metal strip (MS). Finally, the first and second sections (1S,2S) are joined, so that the strip or sheet (MS) remains folded. With this method, it is possible to use high-strength steel, e.g. AISI 301 stainless steel, and still fold a thin strip or sheet (MS) without undesired cracks in the folding section. For example, the invention is applicable for manufacturing of plate-shaped hair-pulling elements (HPE) for a cutting unit (CU) of a shaving apparatus.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a rotary cutting unit (207) of a shaving head of a shaving device, which cutting unit comprises an external cutting member (211) and an internal cutting member (212). In interconnected condition, a holding force prevents the external and internal cutting members from moving apart. Said holding force is at least exerted by a first central portion (221) of the external cutting member upon a second central portion (222) of the internal cutting member, and/or vice versa. Said holding force may for example be provided by means of a snap connection or magnetic attraction between said first and second central portions. As compared to rotary cutting units of existing shaving heads, the invention meets various known desirable design requirements, while at the same time providing for manual removal and insertion of the internal cutting members in a very easy, comfortable and intuitive manner, and the structure to achieve all this being non-complex and compact.
