The cutting head (5) comprises a coupling for a disc-shaped cutting blade (9) and is designed to impart the disc-shaped cutting blade a rotary motion around the axis thereof (B- B) and a cyclic movement to cut the logs (L) into single rolls (R), and to allow the logs to move forward along the feeding path. The machine also comprises a store unit (73) for disc-shaped cutting blades (9A-9E) associated with the cutting head (5). A handling member (71) is provided to remove a worn disc-shaped cutting blade (9A-9E) from the cutting head (5) and replace the worn disc-shaped cutting blade with a new disc-shaped cutting blade (9A-9E) taken from the store unit (73).

Die Messer (130, 140) werden gegenläufig um parallele Achsen in Drehung versetzt. Das Schneidmesser (130) und das Gegenmesser (140) sind zudem derart seitlich versetzt, dass in einem Arbeitsbereich eine Hauptfläche des Schneidmessers (130) eine Hauptfläche des Gegenmessers (140) kontaktiert. Die versetzte Anordnung der Messer (130, 140) und die Tatsache, dass sich die Hauptfläche des Schneidmessers (130) und die Hauptfläche des Gegenmessers (140) gegenseitig kontaktieren, ermöglicht einen präzisen, scherenartigen Schnittvorgang, der besonders gut für die Abtrennung von überstehenden Abschnitten eines Laminats (200) eignet. Weil die beiden Hauptflächen unmittelbar aneinander anschliessen, wird ein Einklemmen von abgetrenntem Material zwischen den Messern (130, 140) verhindert.

An apparatus for feeding and slitting soft goods has multiple slitting systems (22) with respective slitting blades (56) mounted on a cross rail (42). A slitting blade positioning system (23) is movable parallel with the cross rail (42) and operable to move slitting systems (22) along the cross rail (42). A material feed motor (134) is connected to a feed roller and operable to move the soft goods (30) past the slitting system. A control (180) is first operable to cause the slitting blade positioning system (23) to successively move slitting systems (22) to desired positions on the cross rail (42). Thereafter, the control (180) operates a slitting blade motor (50) to rotate slitting blades (56) and the material feed motor (134), thereby moving the soft goods (30) past the slitting blades(56).
