    摘要: A Flexible VCD Having Domed Center and Flat Central Bottom. Ring and Method of Making Thereof is disclosed. The disc will has a flat data storage section of its substrate that is less than 0.7 millimeters thick, while the central region of the disc is defined by a dome structure adjacent to the spindle aperture that is of standard digital disc thickness. The disc is thin enough such that its substrate is flexible. The dome structure is shaped to provide the widest compatibility with player/recorders, as well as with disc printing systems. Disc versions are available that provide conical dome structures, as well as slivered dome structures of both conical and rectangular cross-section, and a combined design having a plurality of raised protrusions on the top surface of the disc, and a flat central ring protruding from the bottom surface of the disc. The method for manufacturing the discs simply requires the replacement of the conventional stamper holder with a stamper holding having a non-flat face.

    摘要: A method for manufacturing an optical component includes mounting each, of a series of replicating inserts to a movable support such as a mold slide. Each of the replicating inserts defines a replicating surface that bears micro-optical structures. Each of the supports is moved relative to one another so that the replicating surfaces of the inserts form at bast portions of surfaces of a concave geometric shape. An optically transmissive substrate is then disposed between the replicating surfaces, so that the micro-optical structures of the replicating surfaces are impressed upon externally facing surfaces of the optically transmissive substrate. Each of the mold slides are then moved away from the externally facing surfaces of the optically transmissive substrate, in a direction that is selected to preserve the impressed micro-optical structures.

    摘要: An optical disk exhibiting no detrimental thickness increase (edge wedge effect) that arises at the outer diameter of an optical disk substrate during an injection molding manufacturing process, and an apparatus and method for making such a disk. The optical disk of the present invention is designed for use with an optical disk player, especially where the data on the optical disk is stored air incident. This optical disk includes a disk substrate made from a molded polymeric material. The disk substrate has a first major surface, a second major surface, and an outer edge. The first major surface of the optical disk includes a data region having an intermediate portion and an outer portion. The outer portion extends to the outer edge of the optical disk. The disk substrate has a thickness defined by the distance between the first major surface and the second major surface. The optical disk also includes an information layer covering the data region. In the present invention, the thickness of the intermediate portion of the data region is substantially equal to the thickness of the outer portion of the data region such that the outer portion of the data region is capable of being used by the optical disk player.
