Diese Strangkomponenten bestehen jeweils aus einem Elastomer oder einer Elastomermischung, insbesondere Kautschuk oder Kautschukmischung, wobei die Strangkomponenten Grenzflächen und/oder Stoßstellen miteinander ausbilden. Die Position von Außenkoordinaten des Stranges ist dabei unter Verwendung eines berührungslosen Messverfahrens, insbesondere eines Lasermessverfahrens, ermittelbar. Weiterhin wird zur Bestimmung der Position von Koordinaten der Grenzflächen und/oder Stoßstellen und/oder der Verteilung der Strangkomponenten im Strangquerschnitt elektromagnetische Strahlung mittels zumindest einer Strahlenquelle emittiert, welche den Strang zumindest teilweise durchdringt. Die elektromagnetische Strahlung wird nach dem zumindest teilweisen Durchdringen des Stranges mittels zumindest eines Strahlendetektors detektiert und hierdurch mindestens ein Messsignal erzeugt, wobei sich der Strang dabei relativ zu zumindest der einen Strahlenquelle bewegt. The composition further includes at least one of a non-fluorinated, thermoplastic polymer as a major component of the composition or a polymer processing additive synergist. A method of reducing melt defects during the extrusion of a polymer is also provided. The thermoset composite material may also contain a granulated silica material. The thermoset composite material may comprise about 30% to about 50% by weight of the vulcanized rubber particles, and it is subjected to compression molding at a predetermined temperature and pressure for a resident time period forming the composite railroad crosstie. The thermoset composite material and railroad crosstie may further comprise a fibrous glass material in the form of unbundled fibers and/or one more glass mats encapsulated within the thermoset composite material. In addition or alternatively, an elongated core insert may be encapsulated in the thermoset composite material.
