Abstract:
The invention relates to a method of handling a unit arranged in a watertight hoisting chamber opening into a hull of a vessel, wherein the unit is adapted to extend into the water below the vessel when installed at its mounted position, the method comprising steps of clamping the unit in its mounted position by clamping means, releasing fixing means fixing the unit into its mounted position while holding the unit clamped in position, at least partly flooding the hoisting chamber, and simultaneously releasing the clamping means and lifting the unit from its mounted position by applying lifting force to the unit by lifting devices, and hoisting the unit away from the hoisting chamber. The invention relates also to installation of the unit and an assembly in a marine vessel.
Abstract:
In a method for maintenance of a water jet (1) provided in a ship, wherein the water jet (1) comprises a water inlet (2) which is in the form of a closed channel, leading from the sea (18) to a pump housing (3), a blocking body, preferably in the form of an elastic bladder (30), is placed in the water inlet (2), thus blocking off water from the pump housing (3). The pump housing (3) is then opened for maintenance. A blocking body (31), preferably in the form of an elastic ring (31), may also be placed in a water outlet (13) from the pump housing (3).
Abstract:
The mounting of a thruster propeller unit (18) in the bottom plating (23) of a vessel is facilitated by the use of lifting lines (26), operable from within the vessel. Each line is made to pass a lock chamber (27) adjacent to an opening in the bottom plating, outside the opening where the thruster propeller is to be fitted. The lock chamber (27) includes a first, rigid tubular member (35), which is formed as the housing for a slide valve (36), as well as a second tubular member (37), which is resilient at least in the transverse direction. The two tubular members define a passage being substantially wider than the diameter of the lifting line (26). The second tubular member (37) is at its top provided with a sealing sleeve (42) which fits around the line. The locking chamber is connected to a source (44) of compressed air, which makes it possible to maintain a pressure within the chamber balancing the pressure of the surrounding water.
