Abstract:
Disclosed herein are polymer compositions useful for scale inhibiting applications. The polymer compositions include a plurality of monomers, which include at least one carboxylic acid and a sulfonated acid. The polymer compositions are used in polymer mixtures in water sources for inhibiting scale formation at relatively low dosages.
Abstract:
A printing ink having improved printing performance is provided. The ink includes either a latex polymer derived from a monomer having an olefinic group and from about 1 to 10 wt% of N-phenylmaleimide or a latex polymer having a narrow particle size distribution that has a standard deviation of less than about 6% of average particle size, or both. The ink may be continuously printed for more than 1 hr without crusting.

The present invention relates to a polymer powder with improved powder properties, and to its use as impact modifier for polylactic acid. The polymer powder comprises (i) 90.0-99.5 weight%, in particular from 95.0-99.0, of polylactic acid (ii) 0.5-10.0 weight%, in particular from 1.0-5.0 of an impact modifier and (iii) from 0,1 to 2% by weight, in particular from 0,1 to 1% by weight based on the total weight of components (i) to (iii), of a copolymer which comprises epoxy groups and which is based on styrene, acrylate, and/or methacrylate.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for producing a homopolymer of olefin represented by formula (1): CH 2 =CHR 1 (R 1 is a hydrogen atom or hydrocarbon group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms) or a copolymer of two or more thereof or a method for producing a copolymer of olefin represented by formula (1) with olefin containing a polar group represented by formula (2) : CH 2 =CHR 2 R 3 (R 2 is a hydrogen atom or methyl group, R 3 is -COOR 12 , -CN, -OCOR 12 , -OR 12 , -CH 2 -OCOR 12 , -CH 2 OH, -CH 2 -N(R 13 ) 2 or -CH 2 -Hal (R 12 , R 13 and Hal have the same meanings as stated in the description), using as a catalyst a metal complex of group 10 elements in the periodic system typified by the structure represented by formula 1 ("Men" represents a menthyl group and "Me" represents a methyl group). The present invention enables the production of high molecular weight polymers of the polar group-containing monomers such as polar group-containing allyl compounds.

Abstract:
A radiation-sensitive composition and negative-working imageable element includes a polymeric binder comprising pendant allyl ester groups to provide solvent resistance, excellent digital speed (sensitivity) and can be imaged and developed without a preheat step to provide lithographic printing plates. The polymeric binder can be prepared with a precursor polymer having pendant carboxy groups that are converted to allyl ester groups using an allyl-containing halide in the presence of a base in order to avoid gelation.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a moulded article exhibiting an optical effect and consisting essentially of cladded core particles whose coat forms a matrix and whose core is essentially solid and is provided with essentially monodisperse size distribution. Said invention is characterised in that the inventive mould article is produced by a method consisting of a) heating a cladded core article to a temperature of a fluid state of the coat thereof, b) extruding the liquid claded core particles from a) by means of an extruder provided with a sheet die and c) transferring extruded material from b) by means of a rolling mill. A method for producing said moulded articles and for the use thereof is also disclosed. The materials produced according to said invention exhibit a uniform colour effect dependent on a viewing angle.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a grafted ethylene copolymer comprising ethylene and an alpha-olefin grafted with 0.1 weight % or more of an unsaturated acid or anhydride wherein the copolymer prior to grafting is characterized by: 1) a vinylidene to vinyl end chain unsaturation ratio of 3 or less, and 2) a CDBI of 60 % or more or was produced using one or more mono- or bis- cyclopentadienyl transition metal catalysts in combination with an activator of alumoxane and/or a non-coordinating anion, and the grafted copolymer is characterized by a number of unsaturated acid or anhydride molecules per chain of 2 or more as calculated according to the following formula: [Mn UAA(wt%)]/[UAA(Mw)] wherein Mn is the number average molecular weight as measured by GPC, UAA(wt.%) is the weight percent of the unsaturated acid or anhydride as measured by FTIR spectroscopy and UAA(Mw) is the molecular weight of the unsaturated acid or anhydride.
