A rubber composition for a tire soft stiffener having improved crack resistance and low heat-buildup and containing (A) carbon black presenting specific particle size distribution behavior in an aggregate mass distribution curve, (B) bismaleimide, (C) alkylidene hydrazide, (D) disulfane, and (E) at least one compound selected from carbon black coupling agents comprising carboxylic hydrazides; and a heavy-duty tire using the rubber composition.

Elastomers which have excellent stability to prevent oxidative, thermal, dynamic, light-induced and/or ozone-induced degradation comprise, as stabilizers, at least one compound of the formula (I): [R-S(=O)m-CH2-CH(OH)-CH2]n-N(R )2-n-R , in which R is C4-C20alkyl, hydroxyl-substituted C4-C20alkyl; phenyl, benzyl, alpha -methylbenzyl, alpha , alpha -dimethylbenzyl, cyclohexyl or -(CH2)qCOOR , and, if m is 0, R may additionally be (a); and, if n is 1 and R is hydrogen, R may additionally be R -R N-CH2-CH(OH)-CH2-S(=O)m-(CH2)x- or R -R N-CH2-CH(OH)-CH2-S(=O)m-CH2-CH2-(O-CH2-CH2)y-, R is hydrogen, cyclohexyl or C3-C12 alkyl, R is (b), R is C1-C18alkyl, R is hydrogen or -CH2-CH(OH)-CH2-S(=O)m-R, X is C1-C8alkyl, Y is C1-C8alkyl, m is 0 or 1, n is 1 or 2, q is 1 or 2, x is from 2 to 6, and y is 1 or 2. The compounds of the formula (I) are also suitable as stabilizers for elastomers to prevent contact discoloration of substrates coming into contact with elastomers.

A coupler is described for use in carbon black filled rubber compositions. The coupler includes an amine group and a thiol group or a polysulfidic linkage. The coupler improves the interaction of the carbon black with the rubber as measured by a decrease in the tan delta at 60 DEG C while substantially maintaining the tan delta at 0 DEG C.

In various embodiments a protective coating composition for the temporary protection of a paint spray booth are provided where the compositions comprise an aqueous liquid that when applied to a surface of said paint booth dries to form a peelable white film thereon, where said liquid coating comprises a liquid film former that when applied to a surface and dried forms a peelable film where said liquid film former comprises a polyvinylbutyral (PVB); and a pigment where the pigment comprises a sulfate process rutile titanium dioxide; and where protective coating composition is more resistant to yellowing than the same composition when formulated with a chloride process titanium dioxide.
