The present invention is directed to a new 2,9-dichloroquinacridone in platelet form, a process for its preparation and its use for coloring high molecular weight organic material. The 2,9-dichloroquinacridone in platelet form has a length of 1 to 45 µm, a width of 0.1 to 20 µm and an average thickness of 0.01 to 5 µm and is characterized in that the hue-value h in remission is =31 and/or the lightness L* in transmission is =20 and/or a decreasing b* value and an increasing a* value from an illuminating and viewing angle (aspecular angle) 45°/110° (+25°) to 45°/90° (+45°).
