Abstract:
A pigment mixture comprising (a) pigment particles, (b) colloidal spacer particles dispersed on surfaces of the pigment particles, and (c) carrier particles, wherein the pigment particles with colloidal spacer particles are dispersed on surfaces of the carrier particles. A pigment mixture of titanium dioxide pigment particles having colloidal silica spacer particles on surfaces of the titanium dioxide, the titanium dioxide and colloidal silica attached to surfaces of diatomaceous earth carrier particles, provides improved optical efficiency of the pigment and improved retention in a paper fiber matrix.
Abstract:
The invention relates to the production of mixed-metal-oxide inorganic pigments, using industrial waste as raw materials, comprising the following steps: (i) characterization and selection of wastes; (ii) their treatment, if required; (iii) formulation + dosing + mixing of components; (iv) drying + calcination; and (v) washing + milling. Selected wastes might be used in the as- received condition or after drying or calcination. The present invention deals with materials that are produced by colorants or pigments producers mainly for use in the ceramic sector, since formulations are stable at high temperatures and act as colorants of glazes or ceramic bodies. The use of high temperatures might also assure the desirable inertization of possible hazardous species.
Abstract:
One aspect of the invention relates to a brown pigment composition with excellent weathering resistance containing iron oxide, chromium oxide, and one or more alumina and/or silica components. Another aspect of the invention relates to a method of making a brown pigment particles. Yet another aspect of the invention relates to a plastic composition containing a major amount of a plastic material and a minor amount of a brown pigment composition containing iron oxide, chromium oxide, and one or more alumina and/or silica components.
Abstract:
In electrophoretic media, it is advantageous to use pigment particles having 1 to 15 per cent by weight of a polymer chemically bonded to, or cross-linked around, the pigment particles. The polymer desirably has a branched chain structure with side chains extending from a main chain. Charged or chargeable groups can be incorporated into the polymer or can be bonded to the particles separately from the polymer. The polymer-coated particles can be prepared by first attaching a polymerizable or polymerization-initiating group to the particle and then reacting the particle with one or more polymerizable monomers or oligomers.
