Abstract: The invention relates to a sewing machine comprising at least one needle (7) that can be driven up and down and a blade (12) mounted downstream of said needle and driven up and down in the direction of conveyance of the article to be sewn by means of a gear or eccentric drive mechanism (20), said blade making it possible to cut a slot in at least one part of the article to be sewn (14). The blade (12) is placed on a guide rod (10) that can be vertically moved in the arm (1) of the sewing machine. Abstract: The invention relates to a device for cutting ribbon-like material for sewing, whereby the drive for the cutting gear is arranged behind the sewing plate, as seen from the direction of sewing, or from the operator's seat and in the cavity between the upper and lower part of the sewing machine. The mechanics of the cutting gear drive are operated by a pneumatically, hydraulically or electrically driven, rotating cylinder.
