A method of monitoring a body of granular material includes the steps of: installing a plurality of wireless sensors in the body of granular material to measure one or more physical conditions of the granular material; installing one or more leaky cables in the body of granular material, each wireless sensor being sufficiently close to at least one leaky cable to communicate wirelessly with the at least one leaky cable; providing a data collection system that is communicatively connected to the one or more leaky cables; transmitting electronic data related to the one or more physical conditions from the wireless sensors to the data collection system via the one or more leaky cable; and characterizing the body of granular material based on the electronic data received by the data collection system.
Abstract:
A method for constructing a retaining wall for a below-ground structure such as a basement for a building and to the retaining wall thereof. The method includes forming a set of below-ground vertical pillar members and excavating to a front of the pillar members to form an earth wall and earth floor of the below-ground structure. The method also includes attaching sheet material to a front of the pillar members to form formwork spaced in front of the earth wall for receiving settable material and filling the void between the formwork and earth wall with settable material, such as concrete.

Изобретение относится к фундаментостроению и может быть использовано как при устройстве буроопускных опор трубопроводов, опор линий электропередач, так и при устройстве зданий и сооружений на вечномерзлых грунтах. Задачей изобретения является разработка технологии монтажа свай, позволяющей исключить возможность попадания в скважину грунтового шлама и грунтовых вод при производстве работ по устройству буроопускных свай в вечномерзлых грунтах в летний период при обводненных грунтах слоя сезонного промерзания - оттаивания и исключения возможности влияния сил морозного пучения, возникающих от деформаций пучения в условиях сезонного промерзания. Способ включает забивку обсадной трубы на глубину сезонного промерзания-оттаивания грунта, бурение лидерной скважины на глубину не менее нормативной глубины промерзания грунтов, заливку твердеющего материала в объеме необходимом для заполнения полостей между лидерной скважиной и сваей от низа лидерной скважины до низа уровня слоя сезонного промерзания-оттаивания грунта, погружение сваи, заполнение полости между сваей и обсадной трубой непучинистым сыпучим инертным материалом.

An integral polymer grid with a plurality of interconnected, oriented polyethylene terephthalate strands and an array of openings therein is made from a polyethylene terephthalate sheet-like starting material having holes or depressions therein that form the openings when the sheet-like material is uniaxially or biaxially stretched. The grid has a higher tensile strength to weight ratio and a higher creep reduced strength to weight ratio than corresponding ratios associated with a grid made from a non-polyethylene terephthalate starting material.

A process for safely excavating to reveal underground utilities. The process includes the steps of: identifying known utilities; planning an excavation trench; excavating the trench by: (i) making a cut of the excavation trench at a selected depth; (ii) extracting material from the trench; (iii)observing the trench; (iv) adjusting the depth of cut; and repeating (i) to (iv) until the process is complete.

System and methods for waterproofing a below-grade wall of a structure. The system comprises a waterproof membrane mounted directly or indirectly to an excavation wall within which the wall of the structure is to be constructed. A plurality of elongate waterstops are affixed to the waterproof membrane and arranged to form a plurality of compartments. A plurality of distribution tubes having apertures are affixed to the waterproof membrane to allow an injectable sealing grout to be injected through the distribution tubes and out of the apertures into a corresponding compartment. A plurality of supply tubes are installed in fluid communication with the plurality of distribution tubes with each of the supply tubes extending to a location on the interior of the wall to be constructed.

The present invention relates to a device for the passive reduction of the sound vibrations in a liquid resulting from a sound source arranged below the liquid level of a body of water, the device comprising an elongate tube which can be arranged over the sound source, the tube comprising an outer wall and inner wall, wherein the tube is designed to maintain a certain desired pressure in the intermediate space between the inner and outer wall. In this case, the pressure is reduced with respect to the ambient pressure. As a result of the reduced pressure, the sound vibrations will less readily travel to the outside and the noise level in the area around the tube is reduced.
