Abstract:
The present disclosure provides a back reamer roller cone that is configured so that the bearings assemblies therein can be relatively easily removed and replaced. Methods of replacing the bearing assemblies in a back reamer are als provided.
Abstract:
An underreamer for well drilling comprises pivotally extendible roller cutters that extend slightly beyond the diameter of the pilot drill bit but are retained in their retracted position by the casing. Upon encountering an obstruction, the underreamer is pushed out of the casing, allowing the outer edges of the cutters to contact the obstruction. Continued downward pressure of the drill stem causes the roller arms to pivot outward to a fully extended position in which the cutters enlarge the hole to a diameter larger than the casing by rotation of the drilling stem. The advance of the casing relative to the underreamer forces the cutters to retract into the casing.
Abstract:
An activation assembly for a wellbore tool positionable in a wellbore includes a housing, a wellbore tool coupled to the housing, and a tool activator operatively coupled to the wellbore tool. The tool activator includes first and second fixedly connected circular disks, each of which includes a plurality of radially projecting teeth disposed around an outer circumferential surface of the disk. The disks are rotatably mounted about a longitudinal axis of the housing. The tool activator further includes a key member having a head portion engageable with the teeth of the first and second disks. The key member is located within the housing such that the disks rotate through a limited angular distance in response to movement of the key member.
Abstract:
The present invention discloses a cutting tool integrated in a drillstring for enlarging a borehole, where the cutting tool at least comprises: one or more side mills (12, 13, 14) arranged along the axis of said drillstring in a reamer housing (11), where the side mills (12, 13,14) are adapted to be rotated relative to the tool housing (11) by individual driving means. The self driven rotational side mills may be dome shaped cones where expand radially out of the reamer housing (11), or may be a special non-circular dome shaped cones where rotates without expanding.
Abstract:
A method to provide support within a wellbore includes underreaming a section of the wellbore at a depth spanning a layer of an unstable formation. The method also includes deploying a bistable structure within the wellbore at the depth of the layer of the unstable formation. Additionally, the method includes actuating an expandable packer within the bistable structure to expand the bistable structure in a radially outward direction from a longitudinal axis of the bistable structure. The bistable structure is in contact with walls of the underreamed section of the wellbore upon expanding in the radially outward direction.
Abstract:
A fluid pressure pulse generator comprising a stator and rotor that can be used in measurement while drilling using mud pulse or pressure pulse telemetry is disclosed. The stator comprises a stator body with a circular opening therethrough and the rotor comprises a circular rotor body rotatably received in the circular opening of the stator body. One of the stator body or the rotor body comprises one or more than one fluid opening for flow of fluid therethrough and the other of the stator body or the rotor body comprises one or more than one full flow chamber. The rotor is rotatable between a full flow configuration whereby the full flow chamber and the fluid opening align so that fluid flows from the full flow chamber through the fluid opening, and a reduced flow configuration whereby the full flow chamber and the fluid opening are not aligned. The flow of fluid through the fluid opening in the reduced flow configuration is less than the flow of fluid through the fluid opening in the full flow configuration thereby generating a fluid pressure pulse.

Abstract:
The device comprises a drilling head equipped with a rotating body (1) through which runs a duct (18) for supplying and bearing a cutting disc (5) mounted in free rotation on a shaft (4). The rotating shaft (4) of the disc (5) is supported by the rotating body (1) and it diverges with the axis of rotation of the said body (1) in the drilling direction. A roller (13) in free rotation rolls on the vertical wall of the drilled hole and centres the device.
