Sleeves, stabilizers and other well tools may be formed with fluid flow paths or channels extending through one or more blades disposed on the exterior portions of such well tools. The blades and associated fluid flow paths extending therethrough may allow optimum fluid flow rates and volumes to enhance lifting of formation cuttings and downhole debris along with cleaning exterior portions of the well tool and an associated rotary drill bit. Location, configuration, orientation and/or dimensions associated with such blades and associated fluid flow paths or channels may also be modified to provide an enlarged pad or contact surface on exterior portions of one or more blades while maintaining desired fluid flow rates and volumes over exterior portions of the well tool. Such pads or contact surfaces may have optimum surface areas for contacting adjacent portions of a wellbore during directional drilling of the wellbore.

A gravel pack screen assembly has one or more hollow flight augers that a continuous or segmented with multiple upwardly oriented gravel entrances and multiple downwardly oriented gravel exits. The gravel passes through the auger and around any bridge. The auger helps advance the screen into position as well as to centralize it during gravel deposition. The auger protects the screen during run in as well as the internal passages that pass through it due to its structural rigidity. An alternative embodiment features spirally wound tubes with staggered exit locations for better distribution of the gravel.

A gravel packing method combining fracturing is described. A gun (22) having an exterior auger (24) is used to perforate. With the gun (22) in place, the gravel (14) is positioned around it and the formation is fractured, pushing the gravel into the fractures. The gun (22) is rotated out of the gravel using the auger (24). A screen (30) with an external auger (32) is run in and rotated into the packed gravel in the wellbore while being vibrated at the same time. After the screen is advanced into position the vibrator (38) is removed and a flapper (44) closes to minimize fluid loss into the formation. A production string and packer are tagged into the screen (30) and production begins.

A torque reducing tubing component for insertion in a tubing string to be used in a bore hole. Upsets (22,30,24,26,28) are mounted on the outer surface of the component which reduce the contact between the tubing string and the bore hole wall thereby reducing friction between the tubing string and the bore wall. Grooves (46) on the upsets act to channel fluid around the upsets creating a fluid bearing film between the contact points of the tubing string and the bore wall. A pressure differential is also created around the upsets serving to attract fluid away from the bore wall so improving the efficiency of the circulation of fluid to the surface. Particular reference is made to a torque reducing tubing component for use in a drill string which improves the efficiency of cuttings removal.
