A projectile (100) that includes a guidance kit (102,103) that directs the projectile in flight. The projectile further includes a shell and a hollow nose cone (106). The shell mates with the guidance kit and the nose cone couples with the shell. The nose cone includes an interior surface configured to house a UUV (202). The projectile further includes a controller (108) that identifies a condition for deploying the UUV in flight, and detaches the nose cone from the shell in response to determining that the condition is satisfied.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren sowie eine Vorrichtung zum Starten eines Unterwasserlaufkörpers (4, 5). Zur Verringerung der durch die Bereitstellung von Wasserfahrzeugen bedingten Kosten ist eine landgestützte Verbringung von Unterwasserlaufkörpern in Küstenwässer mittels einer Startvorrichtung, die ein landseitiges Trägersystem zum Transport des Unterwasserlaufkörpers (4) und ein entsprechendes landseitiges Verbringungssystem aufweist.
Abstract:
A supercavitating underwater projectile (10) adapted to be fired from a gun or the like, comprising a front end or nose portion (12) and a rear end portion (18). An auxilary rocket motor is disposed within the rear end portion (18) of the projectile (10) for providing additional thrust after the projectile (10) has been fired. Vents (28) are disposed within the projectile (10) and are in communication with the rocket motor and the exterior of the projectile (10) for venting some of the combustion gases from the rocket motor to the exterior of the projectile (10) near the nose portion (12) thereof to increase the size of the cavitation bubble formed as the projectile (10) travels through the water and thereby reduce hydrodynamic drag on the projectile.
