Abstract:
A colour testing set for aiding in the selection of the colour of a paint or other decorating product to be applied to a wall, ceiling or other paintable surface, comprises a transferable layer (2) of sheet material having an upper surface (12) which can be coated with paint of a selected colour. An under surface of the transferable layer (2) is adhered to a carrier layer (3) of sheet material providing a border (6) about the transferable layer for protecting, against painting, a surface on which the set is supported. The adhesive adhering the transferable layer (2) to the carrier layer (3) is a releasable adhesive which enables the transferable layer, when coated with the paint, to be peeled from the carrier layer (3) and applied to the paintable surface for colour testing or appreciation.
Abstract:
A system and method for calculating harmonizing colors based on a reference color. In a first embodiment, the invention includes (a) defining a reference color in a uniform color space, (b) converting the hue of the reference color from the uniform color space to an artists color wheel, (c) determining harmonizing colors for the reference color within the artists color wheel, (d) converting the hues of the harmonizing colors from the artists color wheel to the uniform color space, and (e) displaying the harmonizing color information. In a second embodiment, a brown region is defined for colors having red/orange/yellow hues and low chroma values. Additional harmonizing colors are determined when either the reference color or one of the harmonizing colors falls within the brown region.
Abstract:
A color sphere (100) has a plurality of organized color cells. The color cells are gradually lighter from a bottom (108) to a top (110). A first color cell is selected from the color sphere. Radial, horizontal peripheral, vertical peripheral directions (104, 106, 107) are identified relative to the first color cell. The color cells of the sphere 100 are organized so that they only match in the radial direction (104), horizontal peripheral direction (106) and in the vertical peripheral direction (107). A second color cell is selected only when the second color cell is in selected direction.

Abstract:
A colour selection system is provided which comprises a memory for storing grouping information which categorises each of a plurality of colours into one of a plurality of colour groups. In response to an initial colour selection made by a user, the system determines the group in which the selected colour belongs and generates a selection of colours, using colours which belong to the determined group, from which a user can select one or more further colour in addition to the initially selected colour. The groups of colours are chosen so that the user can only select colours which are deemed to be "harmonious" with each other.
Abstract:
A fabric colour guide comprising multiple parts of sheet material, one or more parts bearing at least one colour scale and being pivotable with respect to at least an adjacent part and each pivotable part selectable for comparison with fabric of a colour corresponding with said colour scale/s by pivoting of the pivotable parts(s).
Abstract:
A hand held scanner (10) for determination of the color of a body component has a housing (20) including a light source (22), a detector (26), and a first guiding element (24) that contacts the body surface at least in part. A second guiding element (50) coupled to the housing (20) records the movement of the scanner (10) relative to the body component. The hand held scanner (10) may also be utilized in a scanner system having a central processing unit and an automated mixing device, wherein the automated mixing device mixes at least two cosmetically useful preparations, and wherein the mixing is controlled by the central processing unit.
Abstract:
A method of generating colour based information from a sample comprising the steps of: putting the sample into a condition where it can be scanned to provide consistent colour and light information in the form of parameters (such as information relating to hue, tone and light intensity); scanning the sample to establish first value/s of the required parameter/s according to a given first range of such parameters; generating from the first value/s second value/s of the parameter/s lying in a second range of such parameters either on the basis of a one-to-one relationship between at least a part of the first range and the second range or on the basis of some other relationship or relationships between the first and second range; displaying some or all the first value/s or the second value/s or of functions of the first or second values.
Abstract:
Skin coloration categories are identified based upon opponent color undertones of the skin. For example, using a color measuring device (10), Hunter b value is developed from measures of blue, yellow and lightness. That value alone then determines which of several categories of skin coloration a subject's skin exhibits. Category selection is made by comparison of measured Hunter b with ranges of Hunter b values of skin color categories. Instrumentation includes the color measuring device (10), a central processing unit (15), memory (17), and an output device. The skin color Hunter b is calculated and compared to stored ranges to assign a category which is then displayed on the output device. Colors compatible with skin color categories are identified or formulated based upon broad color family designation, yellow, brown, red, etc., and a comparison of measured and stored ranges of known or specifically developed color characteristics for the particular family.
Abstract:
A process for matching a target color comprises the steps of obtaining data representative of the target color to be matched matching the target color with a textile dye or with a mixture of textile dyes by determining the required amount of the respective textile dyes, applying to a substrate by means of an inkjet printer a printing ink or a mixture of printing inks representative of the matching color of the determined textile dye or mixture of textile dyes so as to obtain a physical sample of the matching color, the inkjet printer using printing inks having the same chromophores as those contained in the textile dye or mixture of textile dyes analyzing the color of the physical sample in order to determine whether or not the color of the physical sample is sufficiently close to the target color.
