After waiting time t3, comparing a change in the charge state of the at least one capacitor to a threshold th3 for a Leakage Current (LC) and Self-Discharge (SD) screening operation. The screening operations may be implemented manually by a user and/or automatically by the exemplary system described herein.

A constant direct current (4) is supplied between the external electrodes (6) of a monolithic ceramic capacitor (1) having defects (12) in its effective dielectric layer (8). When the voltage between the external electrodes (6) is increased and a voltage curve (11) becomes flat, the constant direct current (4) is further supplied for a predetermined time. If the voltage between the external electrodes (6) abruptly falls during the predetermined time, the capacitor is rejected as defective.

    摘要: An apparatus for (Fig.1, element 10) automatically measuring the dielectric breakdown voltage characteristics of each one of a plurality of capacitors. The apparatus includes a predetermined number of test fixtures (28-1 to 28-N), each test fixture being adapted to receive one of the capacitors to be tested. A relay network (Fig 2A, element 70), having a plurality of relays (72, 74, 76 and 78) therein, is connected such that at least one relay in the relay network is disposed between each test fixture and a time variable high voltage source (12) of electrical potential. Also included in the test apparatus is circuitry (20 and 94) for energizing predetermined ones of the relays in accordance with a predetermined sequence thereby to connect the capacitor associated with each relay to the high voltage source. Control circuitry (20 and 140) is provided for controlling the output of the voltage source to apply a predetermined high voltage signal having a predetermined waveform associated therewith to each capacitor connected to the source by the energization of a relay. The apparatus further includes measurement circuitry (12M) for measuring the current flowing through the capacitor connected to the high voltage source by the energization of a relay and recording device (20R) associated with the measurement circuitry for recording the value of the high voltage when the current flow through the capacitor exceeds a predetermined breakdown current threshold. The record value of the high voltage defines the breakdown voltage of the capacitor.
