摘要:
A apparatus can include a component, a compression member, and a fastener system. The fastener system can include a first fastening member extending through the compression member and into the component and a second fastening member within the component and coupled to the first fastening member. The apparatus can include a pliable moisture barrier that separates an inner region from an outer region. The component and the second fastening member can be within the inner region, and the first fastening member can be within the inner region and within the outer region.

A method for obtaining fast neutron and gamma ray quantities in an unknown neutron and gamma ray mixed field. The method is comprised of (1) a radiation detector capable of measuring neutrons and gamma rays, (2) identification of the neutron and the gamma ray interactions based on digital pulse shape analysis, (3) formation of a pulse height (or pulse area) histogram for both neutron and gamma ray events, (4) conversion of the neutron and gamma ray pulse height (or pulse area) histogram into a quantity of interest such as count rate, energy spectra, kerma, absorbed dose, and dose equivalent, for both instantaneous and integral readings, and (5) steps (2-4) occurring in real-time.

A method for producing thermal-neutron detectors that do not make use of 3He, characterized in that it envisages the following steps: I) producing neutron converters by deposition of thin films of 6 LiF on various solid substrates, such as glass, plastic, silicon, scintillating materials, such as CsI and the like; II) coupling one or more thin layers of the neutron converter thus obtained to a scintillator; and III) detecting said scintillation photons via one or more photosensors. The invention also regards a thermal-neutron detector, characterized in that it is constituted by a single scintillator bar, deposited on one face of which either directly or via a purposely provided solid substrate is a neutron-converter material, said bar being coated with reflecting material and being coupled at the two ends to photosensors designed to detect the scintillation light produced by the particles that penetrate into the scintillator.

For each photomultiplier tube in an Anger camera, an R x S array of preamplifiers is provided to detect electrons generated within the photomultiplier tube. The outputs of the preamplifiers are digitized to measure the magnitude of the signals from each preamplifier. For each photomultiplier tube, a corresponding summation circuitry including R row summation circuits and S column summation circuits numerically add the magnitudes of the signals from preamplifiers for each row and for each column to generate histograms. For a P x Q array of photomultiplier tubes, P x Q summation circuitries generate P x Q row histograms including R entries and P x Q column histograms including S entries. The total set of histograms include P x Q x (R + S) entries, which can be analyzed by a position calculation circuit to determine the locations of events (detection of a neutron).

摘要:
Compositions and methods are described for transparent glass composite having nanoparticles therein that scintillate in the presence of nuclear radiation, particularly gamma rays, but also x-rays, alpha particles, beta particles, and neutrons. The transparent glass composites can be prepared by a melt/cool process to produce the transparent glass composite. The wavelength of light emitted by the transparent glass composite can be tailored based on the materials used to make the glass composite. A detector that utilizes the transparent glass composite can measure nuclear radiation from numerous sources.
