An adjustable heater for aquaria, comprising a substantially tubular container (2) within which are housed an electrical heating element (3), a switch (6) comprising s fixed contacts (7, 8) and moving contacts (9, 10) and capable of electrically connecting the heating element (3) with an external source (R) of electrical power, a temperature sensor (12) with a bi-metal strip (13) capable of detecting the temperature of the liquid and interacting with the switch (6) to move it from a closed position to an open position when a predetermined temperature (T) is to reached. An improved seal assembly (42) for use with a combustion liner assembly is employed with a gas turbine engine (10) so as to control fluid flow. The seal assembly has a bi-metal sealing member (44) that is affixed to a first surface that is proximal to a second perpendicular surface that is not in contact with the first surface, thus providing a potential fluid flow path (56). Upon heating, the bi-metal sealing member "uncoils" contacting the second perpendicular surface, thus blocking the flowpath between the two surfaces. Various metals may be provided to provide predetermined sealing characteristics. Corresponding method to control a fluid path in a gas turbine engine (10).

A water boiling vessel has a thick film heating element (3) provided with a bimetallic overtemperature protection control for switching off the heating element if it overheats, for example because the vessel is switched on empty and, to enable the vessel selectively to be operated to produce hot water at a selected temperature lower than boiling, an auxiliary heater (11) is provided on the thick film heating element in the region thereof to which the bimetallic control is responsive and a resistive track is connected in series with the auxiliary heater and is contactable selectively along its length so as to vary its effective resistance and thereby vary the current through the auxiliary heater. The auxiliary heater increases the heating of the bimetallic control above that normally received in operation of the vessel so that it operates at a lower temperature than it normally would, thereby switching off the vessel prematurely before it had time to boil. Also disclosed is an integrated 360 DEG cordless appliance inlet connector and dry boil control which includes a means to connect selectively to the resistive track.
