Abstract:
The present application provides an automated device, including a corresponding network system, that dispenses and receives shared/rental equipment such as umbrellas, sporting equipment, safety accessories and consumer electronics. The device preferably has a mechanical guide that is used to hold the shared/rental equipment or its packaging by using an anchoring structure. A tracking system can be used to track the return and rental processes. Ideally, the device utilizes a central database which can be accessed through internet for administrating the transactions (e.g. rental and return processes) with the device as well as tracking the users, inventory and locations..
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a guiding member for guiding objects when moved from a first location to a second location in an elongate guide part having at least one guide part module, the guiding member comprising a body with a first and a second end with sliding members and support members at each end of said body, said sliding members being arranged to minimize surface contact between the elongate guide part and the guiding member, wherein said support members have concave surfaces supporting an object that is pressed against said concave surface in a longitudinal direction in relation to the guiding member. The invention also comprises a system for guiding objects comprising such guiding members and a method for collecting objects.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for recycling electronic and/or other consumer electronic devices are disclosed herein. A kiosk configured in accordance with one embodiment of the technology includes a laser device, an imaging device, a processor operably coupled to the laser device and/or the imaging device, and a non-transitory computer readable medium having instructions stored therein that are executable by the processer. The laser device is configured to form a laser beam line across at least one exterior surface of the electronic device, the imaging device is configured to acquire an image of the laser beam line, and the instructions are executable by the processer to determine one or more physical attributes of the electronic device based at least in part on an evaluation of the laser beam line in the image.
Abstract:
A method, system and computer program product for directly reimbursing an individual that recycles an item that is marked according to the systern of the immediate invention, the system including: a computer, including a processor and memory, the memory having stored thereon: a unique code database including at least one unique code, the unique code corresponding to a recyclable article: and a remuneration engine configured to associate the recyclable article with a value; a scan-able, printed, unique indicia operationally coupled to the recyclable article, the printed, unique indicia corresponding to the unique code related to the recyclable article; such that when the printed, unique indicia is scanned by a device, the remuneration engine credits a user account belonging to the device with the value; and updates the unique code database to indicate that the printed, unique indicia has been scanned, thereby preventing subsequent remuneration for scanning the printed, unique indicia.
Abstract:
A recycling kiosk (100) for recycling and financial remuneration for submission of an electronic device (150) is disclosed herein. The recycling kiosk (100) includes an inspection area (101) with preferably two mirrored, domed hemispheres (520, 530) positioned about a transparent table (545) and cameras (610) for imaging an electronic device (150) placed on the table (545). Inspection of an About page or a barcode within a battery compartment of the electronic device (150) is performed to determine a value for the electronic device (150). Alternatively, a robotic finger (725) is utilized to inspect the electronic device (150). The recycling kiosk (100) also includes a processor (160), a display (115) and a user interface (167).
Abstract:
A system of receiving prerecorded media discs from users is disclosed. The system may include a control system having a processor capable of accessing a library associating a native bar code with the content of a prerecorded media disc and receiving the identification of a native bar code of a media disc from an optical disc identification system. The system may also include a user interface system having a buy-back activator and being adapted to receive a media disc from a user, where the user interface is capable of communicating a buy-back price to the user. An optical disc identification system may include a disc holder, a light source, a sensor capable of capturing a digital image of the hub of a media disc including a native bar code, and an image processor capable of reading the native bar code from a digital image.
Abstract:
A method of providing an incentive for crushing containers prior to disposal by providing a reward for doing so. When a container is substantially crushed a code on the container that was previously unreadable is caused to be readable by a code reading means. In response to reading the code by the code reading means, a reward is provided. The container may be disposed of in a disposal means. The disposal means may include the code reading means and provide the reward. Alternatively the code reading means may be provided, for example, on a mobile phone or other device. The reward may be any item of value such as a prize, token, money, account credit or voucher, for example.
Abstract:
A method and a system for handling in a reverse vending machine empty packaging units having return value, where the reverse vending machine, for each unit received from a person who inserts one or more such units into the reverse vending machine, identifies the individual unit and determines its assigned return value, and indicates total payable return value, and also gives the person the choice between participating in a lottery with the return value as his/her stake or having the return value paid out. The person's choice of lottery participation causes registration of the person's choice in the reverse vending machine, establishment of successful communication between the reverse vending machine and a lottery database; conversion of the return value into an integer number of lottery tickets; retrieval from a supply of numbered lottery tickets in the lottery database of an integer number of lottery tickets as numbered tickets, where one or more of the tickets retrieved are possible prize tickets, and issuance to the person on the basis of information regarding retrieved and thus allocated tickets of a token containing transaction details. In the event of faulty or absent communication between the reverse vending machine and the lottery database, a substitute token is issued that is related to said return value.
Abstract:
Disclosed is an interactive automated system for dispensing cloth articles, the principles of which may be readily adapted for use in systems for dispensing a wide variety of articles suitable for distribution by use of a vending style device, such as, but not limited to hospital scrub outfits, clean rooms suits, towels, blankets, sweat suits, t-shirts, socks, underwear, under shirts, ties, scarves, hats, and rain suits. Further, systems of the present invention will be of benefit to a variety of institutions and outlets, such as, but not limited to, hospitals, hotels, motels, resorts, health clubs, country clubs, swimming pools, college and university dormitories, shopping malls, tourist attractions, sport stadiums and arena, fair ground, sport shops, factories, laboratories and the like. The general principles of the present invention include: providing an article dispensing device; receiving a user order; ascertaining if the order may be fulfilled by the dispensing device at which such order was placed; if "yes", then fulfilling the order; and if "no" providing an alternative ordering solution based on the user's requested order and information from a system wide database. The alternative ordering solutions may include an alternate article from the dispensing device at which the order is received, the location of an alternate dispensing device at which the desired article may be obtained, or a request that the user return a used article to an associated return device. The system may be configured for loaning articles with the intention that the articles be returned. Aternatively, the system may be configured for vending articles.
