    Abstract: Embodiments generally relate to a computer-implemented method for vehicle occupant surveillance. The method comprises capturing a first image of a target vehicle using a camera configured with a first imaging configuration, configuring the camera with a second imaging configuration, capturing a second image of the target vehicle using the camera configured with the second imaging configuration, making the first and second image available to at least one processor, processing the first image by the at least one processor to determine a licence plate number of the target vehicle, and processing the second image by the at least one processor to determine a non-compliance event. The first imaging configuration allows the camera to legibly capture the licence plate of the target vehicle and the second imaging configuration allows the camera to capture an interior of the target vehicle with sufficient detail to determine the non-compliance event.
