    Abstract: A method and an apparatus for verifying connectivity of a data are applied in the adjacency discovering procedure of the automatically exchanging optical network to verify the connectivity of the data. The method comprises steps: reconstructing the trace object in the SDH coding of the link manage protocol testing message to enable the trace message carry the information of the trace type; when discovering the adjacent layer, constructing the trace message object by the trace agent, sending the trace message to the transmitting plane and requiring the transmitting plane to send the message by the trace byte based on the predetermined form; and when the receiving port of the adjacent layer in the transmitting plane receives the trace message, carrying the different process based on the trace type carried in the trace message. The complexity of realization and the hidden trouble lying in the interconnection caused by the different message sending mechanism in the adjacent layer discovering procedure are resolved, and the transmitting mechanism and the verify flow in the data verifying procedure are unified.

    Abstract: A real time clock request in a communications network is sent from a network element to a management system via a data communications network. The time taken from the sending of the request to the receipt of the RTC is compared with a predetermined maximum and, if less than or equal to the maximum, the network element RTC is updated. If above the maximum the value is discarded and a fresh request is sent. The received acceptable RTC may be corrected by subtracting either the minimum transmission time or half the actual transmission time.
