Abstract:
A system and method to intercept traffic at standard interface points as defined by Cellular/Wireless networks (GSM/GPRS, 3G/UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA, CDMA, WIMAX, LTE), emulate the respective protocols on either side of the interception point, extract user/application payloads within the intercepted packets, perform optimizations, and re-encapsulate with the same protocol, and deliver the content transparently is disclosed. The optimizations include but are not limited to Content Caching, prediction & pre-fetching of frequently used content, performance of content-aware transport optimizations (TCP, UDP, RTP etc.) for reducing back-haul bandwidth, and improvement of user experience. An additional embodiment of the current invention includes injecting opportunistic content (location based, profile based or advertisement content) based on the information derived while monitoring control plane protocols.

The intermediary mechanism is configured to receive a request from a client device, request the data from a data store, receive a response containing response data from the data store, process the response data using context information that relates to the client device to determine contextually relevant information, and transmit the contextually relevant information to the client device.

A system and method for distributing content in an adaptive bitrate (ABR) streaming network. In one embodiment, an origin server receives an initial content request from a client device for a particular content, the client device operative with an ABR streaming media player. Depending on the information received in the initial content request, a local cache proximate to the client device requesting the particular content is located. The requested is then pushed to the local cache, whereupon a response message is generated to the client device, responsive to the initial content request, the response message including location information of the particular content with respect to the local cache.

Techniques for contextual mobile data access are described. In one embodiment, an apparatus may comprise a mobile device with a local gateway utility. The local gateway utility may be operative to receive a network request on a device, determine that the network request corresponds to a context-specific data plan for the device, the context-specific data plan authorizing performance of the network request through a zero-rated proxy server, and perform the network request for the application using the zero-rated proxy server as an intermediary. Example embodiments presented herein are directed towards a base station (401) and wireless device (500), as well as corresponding methods therein, for Information Centric Networking (ICN) based communications with radio bearers. The example embodiments provide a means for using ICN bearers in parallel with standard Packet Data Network (PDN) bearers.

The invention refers to a system for real-time resource consumption control in a distributed environment and a corresponding method, the system comprising: a multitude of server instances (Sx) having access to shared resources, whereby each request for a shared resource issued by a client application (CA) is handled by one of the server instances (Sx); a global resource consumption counter (G), representing the overall resource consumption of the multitude of server instances (Sx) at a given time; and a multitude of proxy servers (Lx), each proxy server comprising — a receiver module (R) for receiving resource consumption requests issued from a client application (CA), — a resource consumption decision module (Dm) for accepting or rejecting a resource consumption request, — a queue (Q) for collecting resource consumption requests that have been locally accepted by the respective proxy server (Lx), — a local resource consumption counter (L), representing the global resource consumption as seen by the respective proxy server (Lx), said local resource consumption counter (L) being updated every time a resource consumption request is accepted by the decision module (Dm), the updated value being provided in turn as an input to the decision module (Dm), and — a synchronization module (S) for synchronizing the global resource consumption counter (G) by interfacing with all other server instances (Sx).
