Abstract:
A handheld test device includes a keypad having keys associated with tests that can be performed on a subscriber line. The keys are arranged in rows to correspond intuitively with networking layers of the subscriber line and with an order in which to test those layers. Keys of a first row are associated with testing at a physical layer, of a second row with testing at a DSL layer, and of a third row with testing at a service layer. The test device is connected to the subscriber line at a location between CO and CPE, and powered on. In response to being powered on, without technician involvement, the test device automatically detects at least one of CO equipment and CPE on the subscriber line, and trains the test device with the detected equipment.
Abstract:
The present invention concerns a portable, field-oriented test gear which permits validation of both digital circuit (TDM) and packet based communications. The test set includes a method and graphical user interface for configuring DS1, DS3, SONET and packet communication based tests, a method and system that allows testing an Ethernet WAN link by using a Pseudo-Random Bit Sequence (PRBS) pattern, as well as a method and system to remotely validate full-duplex 10/100/1000BaseTX WAN communication at full line rate (1Gbps) using a single test gear and a low cost accessory included with the test gear.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to a test apparatus for a broadband telecommunication network. The apparatus comprises an electrical DC power source having a first and a second electrical connection. The test apparatus further comprises a first electrical circuit comprising a first and a second electrical circuit input and a first and a second electrical circuit output. The first and second electrical circuit input are electrically connected to the first and the second electrical connection of the electrical DC power source respectively. Additionally electrical connection is established from the first electrical circuit input to the first electrical circuit output via a first inductor having a first inductance and electrical connection is established from the second electrical circuit input to the second electrical circuit output via a second inductor having a second inductance. A first impedance is transformer coupled to the first inductor. A first test apparatus outlet is electrically connected to the first electrical circuit outlet and a second test apparatus outlet is electrically connected to the second electrical circuit outlet. The first test apparatus outlet and the second test apparatus outlet are adapted for establishing electrical contact to a device to be tested.
Abstract:
A system and method for sensing and provisioning two or four wire mode for a communications link are provided. In one example, the method includes attempting to train a base wire pair associated with a base port for two-wire mode. If the two-wire mode training is unsuccessful, an unassigned port associated with a first wire pair is identified and the base and unassigned ports are configured for four-wire mode. An attempt is made to train the base and first wire pairs for four-wire mode. If the four-wire mode training is successful, a four-wire service is established using the base and first wire pairs.
Abstract:
A digital communication interface for downloading software for upgrading the functionality of a telephone craftsperson's butt-in test set is configured to be powered externally by respectively different voltages ported from the host computer and the test set. Digital communication connectivity for software upgrade signals sourced from the host computer for delivery to the control processor of the test set, and for communication signals sourced from the test set for delivery to the host computer, is effected by a pair of opto-isolators which provide signal integrity isolation between the respectively different parameters of the host computer and the test set.
Abstract:
A system for testing a conductor of a structure can include a test device connected to the conductor. The test device is configured to test an electrical characteristic of the conductor and to produce a test result based at least in part on the electrical characteristic. A service provider network may be configured to communicate with the test device to initiate a test and/or to obtain the test result. A customer may use a computing device to obtain information regarding the test result, as well as guidance for troubleshooting and resolving a problem detected with the electrical conductor, such as a fault.
Abstract:
A module is described comprising a low-pass filter for use in xDSL service provision, means for plugging the module into a connection block and a plurality of switches wherein the switches can bypass the low-pass filter and the switches can be activated remotely. An assembly is also described comprising the aforesaid module and a connection block wherein the module is plugged into the connection block. A telecommunications network having a distribution frame with connection blocks, can be upgraded by moving the connection block to expose a space behind the connection block, plugging in the module and replacing the connector block in its original position.
