Abstract:
An extract of an herbal composition comprising at least two different dried plants useful as antimicrobial and/or antibiofilm agent in the treatment or prevention of microbial infections caused by bacteria, such as for example Escherichia, Klebsiella, Listeria, Pseudomonas, Salmonella, Streptococcus or Staphylococcus, or by fungi, such as for example is herein described. It has been found that in such extract, the active ingredients exert their biological effects in a synergistic manner. The extract may constitute the active ingredient of a food supplement, a nutraceutical, pharmaceutical or cosmetic composition or a functional food or a food additive. A process for preparing said extract is also described here.
Abstract:
The object of the invention is a method of producing plant extracts, characterized in that it comprises a) crushing the plant material, preferably in a homogenizer and demineralized water; b) maceration of homogenized material of step a), preferably for 24 hours in closed periodical extractors with water jacket at the temperature of 20°C; c) fractionation and concentration of the extract of step b), using membrane techniques at the temperature from 20°C to 25°C comprising: - preliminary filtering of solid impurities and colloids by means of a set of filters, preferably with the porosity of μm, 5 μm and 0.3 μm, and with the initial flow rate of 700 l/h, and the final of 100 l/h under the pressure of 0.5 MPa; - ultra-filtration of the permeate after preliminary filtration, preferably by means of semipermeable membranes with the porosity of 0.03 μm under 0.8 MPa pressure; d) carrying out reverse osmosis of the solution obtained in step d), preferably with the initial and final feed flow at 200 l/h and 100 l/h, respectively, and under 2.5 MPa pressure, and plant extract of reduced allergenicity and aw.

Abstract:
The invention provides a method for preparing an herbal extract and a flavor system comprising an herbal extract produced by the process. The invention also provides a flavor system comprising an herbal extract comprising thymol, eugenol, carvacrol and eucalyptol. The invention further provides a flavor system comprising a thyme extract having a minimum inhibitory concentration of less than about 3%. Additionally, the invention provides an oral product comprising a flavor system.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a synergistic herbal composition comprising extracts of Foeniculum vulgare, Murraya koenigii and Triphala optionally along with a pharmaceutical acceptable excipient. The composition delays the onset and progression of cataract and can also be used in prophylaxis. The herbs are cleaned, coarsely ground and extracted using different solvents. The resulting extract is filtered or centrifuged to collect a clear filtrate, which is then formulated in sterile ophthalmic drops, gel, ointment, cream, etc..
Abstract:
The invention relates to compositions and methods for the treatment or amelioration of one or more symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, such as bloating, flatulence or pain. The compositions include a combination of a therapeutic dose of peppermint, a therapeutic dose of fennel and a therapeutic dose of ginger, and may be in the form of a capsule for example. Additional substances may be included in the compositions and methods, such as Yarrow (achillea millefolium), Witch Hazel (hamamelis virginiana), Horsetail (equiseti herba), and Aloe vera species. In the methods of the present invention, the peppermint, ginger and fennel may be administered together or separately, at the same time or at staggered times.
Abstract:
The present invention provides for pharmaceutical compositions that includes a triterpene (e.g., betulin) and an essential oil (Vicks(R) Vapor Rub). The present invention also provides for a cosmetic formulation that includes a triterpene (e.g., betulin) and an essential oil (Vicks(R) Vapor Rub). The present invention also provides a method of treating a fungal infection that includes administering (e.g., topically applying) an effective amount of the pharmaceutical composition to the tissue afflicted with the fungal infection, or the tissue at risk of being afflicted with the fungal infection.
