Abstract:
An apparatus for measuring isometric muscle strength and dynamic strength when a limb is fixed, wherein the apparatus comprises: an attachment assembly for releasably attaching the apparatus to a support frame of an item of exercise equipment; a strain gauge configured to measure compressive or tensional forces; and a connection assembly for releasably connecting the strain gauge to a moveable component (e.g. barbell) of the exercise equipment wherein when connected makes the component immoveable such that forces exerted on the formerly moveable component require isometric muscle contraction or dynamic contraction while the limb is fixed that can be measured by the strain gauge.
Abstract:
An exercise device includes an elastic cable, a panel, and a spindle coupled to an interior side of the panel. The spindle has a locked state and an unlocked state, the spindle being rotatable in a first direction to wind the elastic cable and being rotatable in a second direction to unwind both ends of the elastic cable when the spindle is in the unlocked state, and the spindle being non-rotatable when the spindle is in the locked state. A first stirrup is coupled to a first end of the elastic cable, and a second stirrup is coupled to a second end of the elastic cable.
Abstract:
A muscle stretching apparatus includes a main loop configured from at least one strap and a handle member within the loop. A foot-rest portion is situated along the loop generally opposite the handle member and, in at least one embodiment, carries a foot saddle fabricated from a durable and flexible material configured to wrap around a portion of a user's foot as the foot exerts force thereon. A strap-constricting device carried by the loop renders the muscle stretching apparatus selectively transfigurable between a first configuration defining the single main loop and a second configuration defining, by selective constriction of the main loop with the strap-constricting device, an upper loop including the handle member and a lower loop including the foot saddle. The handle is variously configured to include a grip and a rolling end cap that rotate relative to one another for implementation in myofascial release and trigger point therapy.
Abstract:
Method of doing pushups employs a pair of pushup devices including at least one retainer for receiving a connection member at an end of an exercise band; an elastic exercise band is connected to a retainer of each push up device with the band over a user's back as a user pushes upwardly on the handle sections of the pushup devices. A pushup device also constitutes a part of the invention. The pushup device includes a longitudinally extending passage at the lower end of a body section in which an end section of an elastic exercise band is directed when a pushup in accordance with this invention is being carried out. Preferably the pushup device includes a handle section removable from a body section and usable with one or more elastic exercise bands separately from the body section to provide a variety of different exercises other than pushups.
Abstract:
Provided is a handgrip including first and second operating arms that are spaced apart from each other; first and second link arms that are sequentially and obliquely disposed between the first and second operating arms, and of which both ends are rotatably connected to the operating arms, respectively, through rotating shafts; and a spring member that is installed to provide an elastic force biasing the first and second operating arms apart from each other.
Abstract:
An exercise apparatus and method are provided for permitting a seated user, such as a wheelchair occupant, to perform a variety of exercises, preferably including both lower extremity and upper body exercises, without the need to leave a seated position. The exercise apparatus includes a support base, and first and second foot assemblies each configured to receive a respective foot of a seated user of the apparatus. According to an embodiment, the first and second foot assemblies are mounted on the support base to permit selective performance and switching between a pivoting exercise and a translational sliding exercise.
Abstract:
A training device (10) for exercising the abdominal muscles (40) of a user (30), comprises a base portion (11), an upstanding resistance member (21) contained within a housing (12) and a plunger (13). The resistance member (21) is operably connected to the plunger (13) and is biased normally to urge the plunger (13) upwardly out of the housing (12). By standing on the base portion (11) and exerting a downward force (c) on the plunger (13) whilst keeping his arms (41, 42) and legs (43, 44) straight, the user (30) causes his abdominal muscles (40) to work to overcome the resistance to the downward motion of the plunger (13) provided by the resistance member (21), thus driving the plunger (13) downwards into the housing (12).
Abstract:
Exercise system comprised of plurality of modular components enabling numerous types of exercises. Resistive force provided by durable elastomeric tubing that is quickly connectable to and disconnectable from more rigid components.
Abstract:
A demountable multi-purpose exercise device including a pair of elongate plunger members, and a central guide member in demountable telescopic engagement. Further included is a depressible resilient means disposed between the pair of elongate plunger members and the central guide member, operative to permit mutual contraction of the plunger members in response to opposing axial forces applied thereto. There is an elongate flexible member longitudinally looped about the exercise device in engagement with the pair of elongate plunger members. According to another embodiment of the demountable multi-purpose exercise device there is included an elongate plunger member and a guide member demountably in telescopic engagement. Further, a depressible resilient means is disposed in association with the guide member. Further, there are included, for use with the exercise device an exercise apparatus comprising retractable spool members in cylindrical housings each having elongate flexible members fixably attached and resiliently coiled about the spool members to be uncoiled in response to a force applied thereto.
