An abdominal strengthening apparatus is an apparatus to allow a user to perform core abdominal muscle exercises from a seated position. The abdominal strengthening apparatus includes a stationary base, a tilting arm, a supporting member, a handlebar, and a foot-supporting bar. The tilting arm is pivotably mounted to the stationary base. The supporting member is pivotably mounted to the tilting arm. The foot-supporting bar supports the user's feet and is positioned opposite to the supporting member. The handlebar is adjacently connected to the supporting member opposite to the tilting arm. In implementation, the user grasps the handlebar and exerts the user's body weight onto the handlebar. The force on the handlebar forces the supporting member downward to lever the foot-supporting bar. Therefore, the user engages the user's core muscles through use of the user's body weight to strengthen the user's core muscles.

Exercise devices, and related components and methods are provided. In one embodiment, an exercise device is provided having a frame, treadmill deck and a desk. The treadmill deck is movably coupled with the frame and selectively positionable between a first position wherein a user may run or walk on the treadmill deck, and a second position wherein the deck is placed in a stored position. The deck defines a running path when in the first position. The desk may move between multiple positions, including a first position wherein the desk is placed toward a front portion of the running path, and may even be positioned over a portion of the running path (or at least over a portion of the deck), and a second position where the desk is moved out of the running path. The desk may be adjusted as to height and inclination also.

An energy harvester with unwanted vibration forces is mechanically isolated from exercise equipment by a system comprising a plurality of mechanically compliant vibration isolators and a ballast mass; a flexible cord, pre-loaded with a near constant force spring is used to transmit motion from the weight stack to the energy harvester; the flexible cord has a force limiting feature to prevent excessive force from being transmitted from the energy harvester to the weight stack during an exercise motion.

A device for measuring the core strength of a person includes a rear plate for contacting the back of the person to assist in locating the device, a front plate for providing a load or resistance against which the person flexes their abdominal muscles, an adjustor located at the side of the device to interconnect the front and rear plates to tightly fit around the torso, a detector provided on the front plate for measuring the force generated by movement of the abdominal muscles in communication with a display for displaying the force measured by the detector. The device is available in different embodiments. The advantage of the device is that it allows a person to measure and monitor quantitatively their core strength through exercising the abdominal muscles.

A ball throwing machine can include a hopper for receiving one or more balls and a ball delivery device. The ball delivery device can be used to throw or pitch a ball from the hopper to a user of the machine. The ball delivery device can include wheels to impart speed to the ball and a direction system to control the projection angle of the ball. The direction system can control at least one of the up and down angle and the side to side angle of the ball as it is thrown, among possibly other throwing parameters. A controller may be provided for controlling operation of the ball throwing machine.
