    摘要: The present invention relates to a gas wiping device for controlling the thickness of a coating layer deposited on a running metal strip plated with molten metal (1) in an industrial hot-dip bath, wherein the gas wiping device comprises an upper confinement box (6A) and/or a lower confinement box (6B) being adjacent respectively to an upper external side (15A) of the wiping unit (5) and a lower external side (15B) of the wiping unit (5), said confinement boxes (6A, 6B) being each provided with a respective opening (13A, 13B) to blow an additional flow of non-oxidizing gas, so that, in use, the distance (17A) from an end of the upper confinement box (6A) to the running strip (1) and the distance (17B) from an end of the lower confinement box (6B) to the running strip (1) are separately adjustable, the flow rates of the additional flows being each also adjustable in relation to the respective distances (17A, 17B) between each confinement box and the running strip, based on a measured content of oxygen in the vicinity of the running strip (1) in front of the confinement boxes (6A, 6B), and wherein the cross-section of the respective openings (13A, 13B) of the confinement boxes (6A, 6B) is comprised between 1.5 to 5 times the cross-section of the nozzle slot (7) of the wiping unit (5).

    摘要: A transfer and coating apparatus transfers a component from a conveyor to a coating station for application of a coating. The transfer apparatus includes a mast that can move about orthogonal axes in a horizontal plane and a mast having a carriage that can move vertically. The carriage includes a hook that swings about a horizontal axis relative to the mast for movement of the component in the horizontal direction. A sway bar extends between the hook and component to inhibit movement about a horizontal axis. The component is delivered to an upper compartment of a coating apparatus where it can be lowered in to a lower compartment containing coating material. Excess coating material is removed by an array of nozzles in the upper compartment as the component is raised from the coating material.

    摘要: This invention relates to the control of thickness of a coating applied to the surface of a sheet material. The invention provides an air knife assembly (15) including a body (14) for mounting adjacent to a sheet material which in use is moved past the body in a longitudinal direction, and a mouth (16) facing the sheet material and extending laterally with respect to the direction of movement of the sheet. The mouth (16) is defined by a pair of facing lips (17, 18) which are movable relative to the body (14). A moving means (41) is operable to move the lips (17, 18) relative to the air knife body (14). The assembly further includes a means for distributing a fluid under pressure through the body to enter and emerge from the mouth whereby pressurised fluid emerging from the mouth operates on a coating applied to a surface of the sheet material passing the air knife to thereby control the thickness of the coating.

Air knives (602a, 602b) may be provided near the gap to create an air flow that aids in preventing the free flow of low viscosity materials outside the bounds of the film during coating.
