Abstract: A modular tool holder (20) includes upright bodies (22) composed of a generally U‑shaped riser (24) extending upwardly from base sections (26). Horizontally extending tongues (28) project from one side of each base (26), and complementary horizontally extending grooves (30) are formed in the opposite side of each base. One or more spacers (32), (34), (35), (36), (38), and (40) is/are positioned between the base sections (26) of the bodies (22). The spacers can be of various configurations to receive and hold various tools such as screw drivers, wrenches and plyers. The bodies (22) and spacers can be assembled in innumerable configurations to accommodate different tools sets in drawers and toolboxes, on work benches and in other locations.

Abstract: A drill bit cooling system is provided. After drilling use, the drill tip of a drill bit reaches higher temperatures than a shank or flute of the drill bit. Compartments are provided that are sized in length and width (diameter) to accommodate the drill bit and a cover or back plate with an increased melting temperature facilitates the storage of hot drill tip. By using different components to construct the drill bit holder, a lightweight and versatile cooling system permits the drill bit to be rapidly interchanged on a power tool or drill, without melting through the storage device. This helps the operator interchange drill bits while working on a workpiece without waiting for each drill bit to cool prior to storing and replacing the drill bit.

Abstract: A calibration monitoring system (190) is provided to automatically monitor the calibration status of tools and other inventory items, such as upon the items being issued from or returned to the automated calibration monitoring system. The system identifies an inventory item, for example a calibrated torque wrench based on a unique identifying tag (231A, 231B, 231D, 231) attached thereto. The system retrieves a calibration parameter value for the item from a calibration database (170), and completes a calibration measurement of the item based on the calibration parameter value. In the example, a torque measurement of the calibrated torque wrench can thus be automatically completed. In turn, the system determines a current calibration status of the item based on the calibration measurement, and selectively enables or disables issuance of the inventory item from the system according to the item's status as being in calibration or out of calibration.
