Abstract: Methods for wet chemical synthesis of lithium argyrodites are provided, which in some embodiments include includes dissolving a stoichiometric mixture of precursors in a small quantity of solvent in an argon atmosphere, drying the mixture under vacuum or an inert gas atmosphere to evaporate the solvent, and then annealing to obtain a final lithium argyrodite product. Further embodiments comprise synthesizing the precursors, and excess halide doping to achieve higher ionic conductivity.

Abstract: Process for making an electrode active material wherein said process comprises the following steps: (a) Providing an (oxy)hydroxide or oxide of TM wherein TM is a combination of metals and wherein TM contains Ni and at least one of Mn and Co; (b) treating said oxide or (oxy)hydroxide from step (a) with a non-aqueous or aqueous solution of a compound of M2 wherein M2 is selected from Ti, Zr, Nb or Ta; (c) removing the solvent(s), thereby obtaining a solid residue; (d) mixing the solid residue from step (c) with a source of lithium and, optionally, at least one compound of Ti or Al or Zr; (e) treating the mixture obtained from step (d) thermally at a temperature in the range of from 550 to 900°C.

Abstract: A processing system and method of producing a particulate material are provided. The processing system includes a system inlet connected to one or more gas lines to deliver one or more gases into the processing system, a buffer chamber, a dispersion chamber, a heating assembly, a reaction chamber and a system outlet for delivering particulate material out of the processing system. The method includes delivering one or more gases via a system inlet into a buffer chamber of a processing system, jetting a liquid mixture into one or more streams of droplets using one or more power jet modules into the processing system, delivering flows of one or more heated gases via a heating assembly, forming a reaction mixture and processing the reaction mixture at a reaction temperature into a product material inside the reaction chamber.

Abstract: Process for making an electrode active material wherein said process comprises the follow-ing steps: (a) Providing a hydroxide TM(OH)2 or an oxyhydroxide of TM wherein TM is one or more metals and contains Mn and, optionally, Co, and from 85 to 95 mol% Ni, referring to the sum of Ni, Co and Mn, (b) Drying said hydroxide TM(OH)2 or oxyhydroxide of TM at a temperature in the range of from 400 to 600°C, thereby obtaining an oxide or oxyhydroxide of TM with a residual moisture content of from 200 to 500 ppm, (c) mixing said oxide or oxyhydroxide from step (b) with a source of lithium and with at least one compound of Mg or Al and with at least one compound of Ti or Zr, (d) treating the mixture obtained from step (c) thermally at a temperature in the range of from 550 to 875°C.

Abstract: New methods of producing aluminum fluoride from cryolite are disclosed. A method may include a step of reacting cryolite bath materials with aluminum sulfate, thereby producing a reactant product, the reactant product comprising aluminum fluoride. The method may further include a step of removing impurities from the reactant product, thereby creating a purified product comprising the aluminum fluoride. The removed impurities may comprise at least one of sodium (Na), magnesium (Mg), and calcium (Ca). In one embodiment, due to the removing step, the purified product contains not greater than 0.2 wt. % of calcium.
