A method of decorating a glass substrate having a coating, said method comprising: applying a paste onto at least a portion of said coating in a desired pattern; drying said paste to form a dried paste in said desired pattern; and firing said dried paste to form an enamel in said desired pattern, said enamel being directly bonded to said glass substrate by dissolution of the portion of the coating to which the paste is applied during the firing step. The paste comprises a solids portion dispersed in a dispersion medium, said solids portion including a composition comprising: 10 to 40 mol% ZnO; 20 to 40 mol% B 2 O 3 ; 25 to 65 mol% Bi 2 O 3 , TeO 2 , or PbO, or mixtures thereof; and to 15 mol% Al 2 O 3 .

An electronically active glass has the composition (T x O y ) z - (M u O v ) w - (Na/LiBO 2 ) t wherein T is a transition metal selected from V and Mo, M is a metal selected from Ni, Co, Na, Al, Mn, Cr, Cu, Fe, Ti and mixtures thereof, x, y, u, and v are the stoichiometric coefficients resulting in a neutral compound, i.e. x = 2y/ (oxidation state of T) and u = 2v/ (oxidation state of M), z, w and t are weight-%, wherein z is 70-80, w is 0-20, t is 10-30, and the sum of z, w and t is 100 weight-%, in particular V 2 O 5 -LiBO 2 and V 2 O 5 -NiO-LiBO 2 .

A fixed tint, photochromic glasses and sunglass lenses produced therefrom. The glasses have R2O-Al2O3-B2O3-SiO2 base compositions, contain silver chloride and bromide contents as photochromic constituents and 0.27-0.38 % and 0.035-0.060 %, both by weight percent, as glass colorants, the NiO:Co3O4 ratio being at least 6:1.
