Abstract:
The invention concerns the use of a composition comprising a chlorinated polyester resin wherein the polyester is of formula (I), as well as a crosslinking catalyst and a crosslinking accelerator for filling a crack affecting a metal device designed to contain an acid or radioactive material. The invention is particularly applicable in the maintenance of metal equipment in nuclear installations, and in particular equipment for reprocessing irradiated nuclear fuels.
Abstract:
Compositions with antimicrobial properties contain a fatty acid ester salt mixed with a bioabsorbable copolymer. These compositons are useful in forming coatings for surgical articles, including multifilament sutures.
Abstract:
A water- and oil-repellent composition comprises (a) a repellency-imparting, fluorochemical composition comprising at least one fluorine-containing aromatic ester oligomer comprising (1) at least two repeat units derived or derivable from the reaction of at least one dicarboxylic acid (or a derivative thereof) and at least one polyol, with the proviso that either the dicarboxylic acid (or derivative) or the polyol (or both) is aromatic or heteroaromatic, and (2) fluorochemical endgroups derived or derivable from the reaction of (i) the dicarboxylic acid (or derivative) and at least one fluorine-containing monoalcohol, or (ii) the polyol and at least one fluorine-containing monocarboxylic acid; and (b) a treatable substrate; with the proviso that, when the treatable substrate comprises a mixture of at least two polymers, the mixture is non-stratifying.
Abstract:
A composition of matter, comprising: a chemically functionalized carboxylate-alumoxane that is functionalized with a chemically reactive substituent, and a reactive compound, wherein the chemically reactive substituent reacts with the reactive compound so as to link the carboxylate-alumoxane to the reactive compound and form a polymer matrix. Ther functional groups on the carboxylate-alumoxane can vary depending on the desired properties of the matrix. Also, the composition of matter may comprise a cross-linked matrix in which the cross-linked components consist of functionalized alumoxanes.
Abstract:
Provided are novel polyester compositions containing copper phthalocyanine sulfonamide colorants copolymerized therein. Also provided are amorphous color concentrates, partially-crystalline color concentrates and semi-cristalline color concentrates. These polyester compositions are particularly useful for use as colored packaging materials and for colorants for personal, medical, and home care products where non-extractability of the colorant residue is important.
Abstract:
Polymer materials based on main-chain polymers containing polar monomer units, where the polar monomer units contain electron donor/acceptor-substituted conjugated pi-systems and are oriented in the same direction in the polymer main chains, in which the main-chain polymers are branched, are eminently suitable for use in optical components for non-linear optics.
Abstract:
Composition useful for molding into articles such as food containers, beverage bottles, cured structural plastics and the like comprising molding grade linear or unsaturated polyester or polycarbonate (a) containing a mono-4-acryloxystyryl or bis-4-acyloxystyryl compound or (b) having reacted therewith or copolymerized therein a styryl residue derived from a mono-4-acryloxystyryl or bis-4-acyloxystyryl compound, having the formula +TR wherein R4 and R5 represent the acyl radical and the other radicals are as defined in the specification. Preferred compositions comprise a linear polyester containing a styryl residue as an integral part of the polymer chain. The styryl residues absorb ultraviolet radiation in the range of about 250 to about 390 nm. The residues are non-extractable from the polymer and stable at the conditions at which the polymers are manufactured and processed.
