Abstract: The release composition includes a siloxane polymer having a weight average molecular weight of at least 1000 grams per mole, a first crosslinker and a second crosslinker, each crosslinker independently a compound represented by formula Si(OR5)4 or R1Si(OR5)3, or a compound having at least two groups represented by formula -Si(R4)x(OR5)3-x, and a photoacid generator. The siloxane polymer includes repeating divalent units represented by formula and at least two functional groups selected from silanol, alkoxysilane, -Si(OR2)y(R")3-y, and a combination thereof. In these formulas, each R is independently alkyl, each R2 is independently hydrogen or alkyl, each R" is independently alkyl or aryl, y is 1, 2, or 3, each R4 is independently alkyl or aryl, each R1 and R5 is independently alkyl; and x is 0 or 1. An article including a cured reaction product of the release composition and a method of making the article are also described.

Abstract: Hydrophobic and oleophobic coatings, methods of making same, and uses of same. A coating can comprise one or more oleophobic and/or hydrophobic layer(s) disposed on a substrate, e.g., a fabric or the like. A layer comprises polymeric particles, which may be at least partially coalesced and/or crosslinked, comprising (co)polymer chains comprising silicon-containing pendant groups. A method of making a layer comprises: coating a substrate with an aqueous dispersion of the polymeric particles; and, optionally, curing the layer, e.g., to coalesce and/or crosslink the polymeric particles. A method of making the aqueous dispersion may comprise: forming a reaction mixture comprising one or more monomers comprising silicon-containing pendant groups; optionally, one or more comonomers; surfactant, and water. Coatings of the present disclosure have use in aerospace applications, automotive applications, building and construction, food processing, and electronics, or the like.

Abstract: Foam control compositions along with formulations thereof and their use in various applications, including a method for making a foam control composition comprising a cross-linked polyorganosiloxane material including a dispersed silica filler, including the steps of: A) preparing a hydrosilylation reaction mixture by combining the following components: (i) silica filler, (ii) a polyorganosiloxane having at least two reactive substituents capable of addition reaction with component (iii) via hydrosilylation, (iii) a polyorganosiloxane having at least three reactive substituents capable of addition reaction with component (ii) via hydrosilylation, and (iv) a hydrosilylation catalyst; B) conducting a hydrosilylation reaction of components (ii) and (iii) until the reaction mixture at least partially gels to form a hydrosilylation reaction product; C) shearing the hydrosilylation reaction product of step B); and D) combining the hydrosilylation reaction product of step C) with a (v) silicone resin and an (vi) condensation catalyst to form a condensation reaction mixture and conducting a condensation reaction between the (v) silicone resin and the hydrosilylation reaction product of step C) to form a condensation reaction product.

Abstract: A surface modifying coating for an article that includes a first component having a surface in frictional engagement with a surface of a second component. At least a portion of a surface of one of the components is coated with a coating including a mixture of at least two silicones: (i) a hydrolyzable organopolysiloxane with a viscosity of less than or equal to 1,000 centistokes and that is capable of crosslinking reaction upon exposure to moisture at ambient temperature; and (ii) a second organopolysiloxane copolymerizable with the first hydrolyzable organopolysiloxane and having viscosity of greater than or equal to 5,000 centistoke; wherein the coating provides a maximum break loose force equal to or less than three times a kinetic extrusion force such that stiction is reduced between engaged surfaces. The coating is compatible with high-temperature sterilization methods sometimes used on articles for medical uses, is resistant to leaching, migration and breakdown during long-term aging conditions, and does not require a catalyst, crosslink agent, or additional energy source for preparation or application.

Abstract: Polymer derived ceramic (PDC) materials, compositions and methods of making high capacity, long cycle, long life battery anodes to improve the performance of batteries of all types, including but not limited to coin cell batteries, electric vehicle (EV) batteries, hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) batteries, plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) batteries, battery electric vehicle (BEV) batteries, lithium cobalt (LCO) batteries, lithium iron (LFP) batteries; and lithium-ion (Li) batteries, and lead acid batteries. Silicon is incorporated in the PDC material at a molecular level when reacting a polymer derived ceramic precursor and a silicon hydride constituent or a silicon alkoxide constituent to form a PDC composition useful as a battery anode material. The resulting battery anode materials increase the specific capacity of a battery measured in milliampere-hours per gram (mAh/g) and increase the life cycle of a battery while minimizing distortion and stress of the anode structure.
