A composition suitable for addition to frack water comprising: a blend of Bacillus species, 5.6mM β-D-glucose, 5.6mM β-fructose, 30mM L-asparagine and 6 mM KCl in 50mM-Tris / HCl buffer, pH 7.5 (GFAK); wherein on germination the bacteria produce prodigious amounts of the natural biosurfactant surfactin, biocidal concentrations of subtilin and lanthionine-containing peptide antibiotics which act to competitively exclude unwanted bacteria; in addition they produce α-amylase enzymes which detach biofilm exopolysaccharide components; when added to fracking fluids they increase efficiency, control biofilm formation and reduce or remove the need to add environmentally-damaging chemicals to frack fluids.

There is also provided a method for making a fluid the method comprising (a) selecting a plurality of glass microspheres having alkaline surfaces; (b) coating the surfaces of the plurality of glass microspheres with an acid; and (c) combining the coated glass microspheres with (i) a mixture comprising at least two cross-linkable polysaccharides, and (ii) water. Disclosed are compositions and methods for providing fluid-loss control in subterranean wells. Well-completion fluids contain fine particulate additives whose glass-transition temperatures are below the anticipated bottomhole temperature. The particles soften upon injection into the well, whereupon they soften and become deformable. The particles then migrate to the borehole wall and form a seal that reduces further fluid flow from the borehole into the formation. The additive may be supplied as a powder or in the form of a liquid suspension.

Compositions and methods of treating high temperature subterranean formations of up to about 500 °F (260 °C) are provided. The compositions and methods utilize a high molecular weight synthetic copolymer and a pH buffer than maintains a pH in a range of about 4.5 to about 5.25 for the compositions. The high molecular weight synthetic copolymer is derived from acrylamide, acrylamidomethylpropanesulfonic acid, and vinyl phosphonate. A high temperature well treatment fluid comprising an electron donating compound comprising phenothiazine as thermal decomposition reduction additives for gels used in well treatment fluids is provided. The electron donating compound comprising phenothiazine performs as a stabilizer in well treatment fluids at temperatures of up to about 500 °F (260 °C).

The present invention relates to viscosified treatment fluids used in well completion and stimulation operations for oil and gas production, and more particularly, to viscosified treatment fluids comprising xanthan gelling agents. In one embodiment, the present invention provides a method of treating a portion of a subterranean formation comprising the steps of: providing a viscosified treatment fluid that comprises water and a gelling agent that comprises a modified xanthan; and treating the portion of the subterranean formation. The present invention also provides methods of fracturing, gravel packing, acidizing with the viscosified treatments fluids. Also provided are viscosified treatment fluid compositions and gelling agent compositions.

Aqueous wellbore treatment fluids having improved thermal stability are provided. The wellbore treatment fluids comprise at least one polysaccharide and an effective amount of at least one polyacrylamide to maintain its stability at a temperature greater than about 25O0F. A formate compound is not required to achieve high-temperature stability in the fluid. Thus, the fluid is less expensive than conventional polymer-containing aqueous wellbore treatment fluids. The aqueous fluid may serve as, for example, a drilling fluid in the wellbore and thus may be circulated through the wellbore without being concerned that it could become unstable due to exposure to relatively high downhole temperatures.

A method is provided for drilling a wellbore including the steps of: providing a drilling mud comprising a primary amine; circulating the drilling mud while the wellbore is being drilled wherein the primary amine is incorporated into a filter cake deposited on the wellbore wall as the wellbore is being drilled; and removing at least a portion of the filter cake after the wellbore is drilled by circulating fluid into the wellbore a composition comprising nitrous acid. The invention also includes the drilling fluid containing a solid component that generates gas from within the filter cake upon contact with a component that causes the solid component to generate gas. In some embodiments, the solid component is a primary amine grafted to a polymer that is not soluble in the drilling fluid composition such as a starch.
