The present invention relates to bleaching compositions suitable for use in hard surface cleaning and laundry applications comprising a hypohalite bleach, a source of alkalinity in an amount of 0.05% to 10% by weight of the total composition, and an effective amount of an hybrid polymer comprising a synthetic polymer as the backbone of the hybrid polymer, and a chain transfer agent selected from the group consisting of gluconic acid, glucoheptonic acid and naturally derived mono-, di-, oligo- or polysaccharides, as the chain terminating portion of the polymer. It further relates to uses of the bleaching composition for providing improved safety to the fabrics treated therewith or improved shine to the hard surface treated therewith.

The method includes the step (1-6) of treating the assembly with an aqueous mixture or a gas- liquid mixture having an inorganic base and from 100 to 1,000ppm of a hypochlorite salt, wherein the mixture has a pH between about 12.0 and about 12.5, an oxidation reduction potential of less than 0.5 volts, a temperature of 40° to 55°C and wherein the mole % of hypochlorous acid, HOC1, relative to the sum of hypochlorous acid plus hypochlorite anion, - OC1, is less than 0.004%. The composition may be used in such a method.

In addition, the molar ratio of the alkaline earth metal (e.g., magnesium or calcium) to hypochlorite is at least 3: 1. In other words, x is ≥ 3y. The compounds exhibit excellent stability, little or no chlorine bleach odor, exhibit excellent pH buffering characteristics, and less reactivity with organic materials as compared to alternative chlorine bleach products.
