Abstract: The present invention relates to a joint for a device moveable in vacuum, the joint comprising a supporting part, a mobile part and a guiding and connecting part, wherein the mobile part and the supporting part each have at least a region of convex shape, with the regions of convex shape of the mobile part and of the supporting part facing one another and with the guiding and connecting part being arranged, in particular clamped, between the regions of convex shape of the support- ing part and of the mobile part, wherein the guiding and connecting part has a greater bending elasticity than either of the supporting part and the mobile part. The invention further relates to a mechanism for moving a device in vacuum, the mechanism comprising a plurality of joints and to a device comprising a plurality of joints and/or a mechanism, with the device being configured to be moved in a vacuum.

Abstract: One aspect of the present invention is related to a ball socket assembly that includes a housing with an inner bore and at least one open end. The ball socket assembly also includes a ball stud which is partially received in the inner bore of the housing. An exit bearing supports the ball stud and is positioned in the inner bore adjacent the at least one open end. The exit bearing includes a plastic piece and a metal piece which are connected with one another. The metal piece has a semi-conical shape. The housing is deformed adjacent the at least one open end to capture the exit bearing within the inner bore. In operation, the metal piece reinforces the plastic piece to transfer forces between the ball stud and the housing.

Abstract: A dry running mechanical ball joint seal includes a spherical element penetrated by a central passage and suspended between support rings pressed by springs against the spherical element and forming a sliding dry seal therewith. A lip seal located between the support rings includes wipers pressed radially inward by a lip seal spring to form an additional seal with the spherical element. In embodiments directed to piping systems, a fluid is able to flow through the central passage. Other embodiments include a sliding rod directed through the central passage and sealed to the spherical element by a rod support within the central passage and also by at least one rod lip seal having a wiper pressed by a spring against the rod. The rod support can include a compressible packing material and/or a linear ball bearing sealed to the spherical element within the central passage.
