The device makes it possible to count series of products (2) that are not very thick, stacked side by side, in a determined direction in a retention means, and comprises: a lighting means producing one or more light beams covering the whole length of the stack, a means (8) of detection with photosensitive elements and including an optical device, making it possible to focus light rays reflected by the stack (5), processing means (10) receiving signals originating from the detection circuit, extracting light levels from these signals in correlation with a dimension of stack thickness expressed in pixels, and computing the number of products by determining the repetition of a pattern representative of a product (2) in a noise-free signal resulting from a conversion of the signals received. A Fourier transform is respectively applied to correlation and bicorrelation functions of the signal in order to find a periodic pattern representative of a product if necessary to the nearest phase shift.

The process for treating stacks formed of a predetermined number of planar substrates, such as securities, banknotes, checks and other similar documents, said securities being formed by prints on said substrates arranged in matrix-form in lines and columns, comprises the steps of (a) displacing the stack under a cutting device; (b) cutting a strip of the stack with cutting means; (c) evacuating the cut strip for liberating the front side of the stack which is under the cutting means; (d) taking an image of the front side of the stack; (e) counting the number of substrate in the stack by analyzing the image taken; (f) resuming the process at step (a) until all strips of a stack have been cut and starting with another stack.

Ein Zählsystem für ein Schienenfahrzeug (200) weist auf: - eine Induktionsschleife (101), - eine Zählvorrichtung (102), - eine Steuervorrichtung (103), wobei - die Induktionsschleife (101) und die Zählvorrichtung (102) jeweils signaltechnisch mit der Steuervorrichtung (103) gekoppelt sind, und die Steuervorrichtung (103) eingerichtet ist, in Abhängigkeit von einem ersten Signals der Induktionsschleife (101) und von einem zweiten Signal der Zählvorrichtung (102) die Anzahl mindestens eines vorgegebenen Objekts (104) zu ermitteln, das die Induktionsschleife (101) überquert. Zudem werden ein Schienenfahrzeug, eine Verwendung des Zählsystems und ein Verfahren angegeben.

A method and an arrangement for detecting and counting articles are disclosed, performing the steps of: • - providing a detecting station (20) arranged along a passageway (16) for the articles (W), the detecting station (20) being adapted to establish at least a scanning radiation beam (R) at a cross section of the passageway (16); • - passing articles (W) past the detecting station (20), the detecting station (20) detecting an article (W) upon sensing at least a partial interruption of the scanning radiation beam (R); and • - obtaining a count of the detected articles (W) through the passageway (16), wherein the detecting station (20) include first and second detecting assembly (22a, 22b) arranged at a predetermined distance (d) from each other along the direction of travel (Z) of the articles (W), which first and second detecting assembly (22a; 22b) establish a respective scanning radiation beam (R) on a first, respectively second scanning plane (A; B) at a corresponding cross section of the passageway (16), and wherein • - at least a first predetermined reference section of the articles (W) is detected at each scanning plane (A, B); • - a travelling speed of each article (W) is calculated based on the time used by the at least one reference section of the article (W) to travel the predetermined distance (d) between the first and the second scanning planes (A, B); • - at least a second predetermined reference section of the articles (W), which is separate from the first reference section, is detected at least at one of the first and second scanning plane (A; B); and • - a count of the articles (W) is obtained by calculating a length thereof from the calculated travelling speed and by calculating the time used by the article to cross at least one of said first and second scanning plane (A; B).
