Abstract:
A reactor head inspection system for use in performing a non-destructive inspection of tubular components mounted on an interior surface of a reactor head is disclosed. The inspection system includes a movable carriage assembly including an elevation arm and an inspection device mounted at a distal end of the elevation arm. The inspection device includes a C- or U-shaped collar having an interior surface of sufficient interior dimension to enable positioning of the interior surface of the collar in close proximity of an exterior surface of a tubular component and also includes a magnetic and/or eddy current sensor. A plurality of video cameras and light sources are also provided on a distal surface of the collar such that, when mounted on the elevation arm, the collar can be controllably positioned in close proximity adjacent a tubular component of the reactor head to achieve a 360° view and inspection of a surface of the tubular component.
Abstract:
The invention provides a method for the removal of contaminating materials from pipework, the contaminating materials comprising deposits on the pipework which cause a reduction in the effective internal diameter of the pipes and thereby effect a reduction in the rate of flow of a fluid through the pipework, the method comprising treating the contaminating materials with at least one carbamate salt. The methods is also suitable for the treatment of contaminating materials which have a particularly deleterious effect on fluid flow and comprise partial or total blockages of the pipework. The carbamate is preferably in the form of an aqueous solution, and a preferred carbamate salt is ammonium carbamate. The treatment may be carried out in the presence of an additive such as caesium carbonate or ammonium bicarbonate. Optionally the treatment may be accompanied by a pre-treatment or post-treatment with aid, this being followed by a water wash. The method finds particular application in the nuclear processing industry.
Abstract:
The invention relates to nuclear engineering, in particular to a method and a device for checking and examining a surface inside the experimental channels of nuclear and thermonuclear assemblies. Examination of the surface is carried out during a radiation and thereafter. Said examination is carried out for various operating regimes of a probe scanning microscope by selecting a probing device and a regime corresponding thereto. Afterwards, pictures of various surface characteristics thus obtained are analysed, making it possible to conclude with respect to the degree and dynamics of a radiation effect. The probe scanning microscope comprises a computer provided with a control plate and a measuring head of the probe scanning microscope. Said measuring head comprises a cylindrical body (1) fitted with abutments (4), a scanning unit, an electronic block (3), a data channel (2), a camera-recorder (5), lights (6) and a fixing mechanism.
Abstract:
Device (18) and method for performing repairs in a space (7) defined by at least one non-plane wall (6), accessible by at least one opening (17, 17'). The device includes a moving support for a device (20) for performing repairs in said space, said moving support being suitable for insertion into the opening, means for guiding and supporting the moving support along the non-plane wall comprising a rail (29) for guiding and supporting the moving support, said means being suitable for insertion into the opening and being flexible in the longitudinal direction and rigid in the transverse direction. The device also includes clamping means (37, 37') for holding the rail against said wall, said clamping means being arranged to removably secure said rail on said wall, and means (32, 40, 40', 45, 46) for remotely controlling movement of the moving support along the rail.

Abstract:
A sampling tool for obtaining a sample from an interior wall of a tube comprises first and second cutter sub-assemblies operatively connected to a shaft. First and second actuators move the first and second cutter sub-assemblies between a retracted position and an extended position as the shaft moves. A valve selectively fluidly communicating an ejection port located in one of the first and second cutter sub-assemblies with a purge fluid supply. The valve discharges purge fluid through the ejection port onto the interior wall of the tube during cutting of a portion of the wall.
Abstract:
A method for configuring an array of transducers in an ultrasonic test apparatus for detecting flaws in welds connecting the edges of metal bodies such as plates or pipelines. The method comprising: providing geometrical data of the bevelled edges of the bodies before being welded; identifying different facets of the geometry of the edges; providing geometrical data of a reference plate including a reflector; selecting the angles; and the positions of the transducers in accordance with the geometry of the edges; mounting the transducers to a scanning mechanism in accordance with the selections made; connecting the transducers to at least one control unit for transmitting ultrasound and receiving echo signals by means of the transducers and subsequently calibrating by means of the reference plate the positions of the transducers relative to the scanning mechanism and calibrating gain and gate settings by means of the reference plate.
