摘要: The present invention relates to a composite electrode for a power cell. The electrode comprises active graphite particles, electro-conductive carbon additives and a binder. Specifically, the active graphite particles comprise rounded graphite particles and high aspect ratio graphite particles interspersed therebetween. The high aspect ratio graphite particles are preferably arranged to at least partially fill spaces between the rounded graphite particles to provide an electrode with a high natural density. The electrode may further comprise a conductive additive to enhance conductivity. Particularly, though not exclusively, the invention provides a carbon anode provided for use in high power lithium-ion cells used for rechargeable batteries. The invention further includes a lithium-ion power cell incorporating the composite electrode. The power cell incorporating the electrode of the invention has high both capacity and good electrical conductivity.

摘要: The present invention relates to a composition of matter for the production of a graphite powder, suitable for making high performance lithium-ion battery anodes and other applications. The composition of matter comprises a biochar, a metal and graphite. The biochar is typically derived from the pyrolysis of woody biomass. The metal is typically a transition metal derived from the decomposition and reduction of an organic or inorganic metallic compound. The graphite is highly crystalline and has a wide range of morphologies or structures. To produce the composite of interest, the required precursors (biochar and the metallic compound) are mixed and subjected to a heat treatment. The resulting well-defined composite may then be subjected to other post-processing steps to yield the final graphite powder. The resulting graphite powder has numerous industrial applications, most notably in, but not limited to, high performance lithium-ion battery anodes.

In some implementations a surface of the electrode is activated for (a) a pre-treatment process to remove loosely held particles from the electrode surface; (b) a pre-treatment process to activate the surface of the electrode material for improved bonding or wetting for subsequently deposited materials; (c) a post-treatment of the pre-lithiation layer to improve subsequent bonding with additionally deposited layer, for example, passivation layers; and/or (d) a post-treatment of the pre-lithiation layer to improve/accelerate absorption of the lithium into the underlying electrode material.
