Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for earphones are disclosed. In one example, an earphone includes a speaker arranged to output an audible sound to an earphone user ear. The earphone includes an earphone housing having a first earphone housing opening arranged to output the audible sound into an ear canal of the earphone user. The earphone housing further includes a second earphone housing opening arranged to port to an ambient air ear exterior when the earphone is inserted into the earphone user ear. The earphone includes a valve positioned between the first earphone housing opening and the second earphone housing opening. The valve is operated in an open position during a telephony mode to provide an acoustic leakage pathway between the first earphone housing opening and the second earphone housing opening. The valve is operated in a closed position during a media mode to close the acoustic leakage pathway.

Abstract: A personal respiratory isolation system (PRIS) provides a personal, negative pressure environment for a patient or user that reduces contamination and spread of pathogens exhaled by the patient into the environment. The PRIS includes an enclosure to receive the patient's head (such as a hood and a drape) and a negative pressure source which draws ambient air into the interior of the enclosure and draws air within the enclosure's interior (including the exhalations of the patient, including any contaminants and/or pathogens) out of the enclosure via a fluid port into a container for biohazard processing or disposal. The PRIS may allow positive air pressure therapeutic treatments to be delivered to the patient within the negative pressure environment, and the PRIS may maintain a constant pressure within the interior of the enclosure. The PRIS may include a transparent, hinged face shield for ease of patient observation and/or access.

Abstract: A hearing protection device is presented. The device has a first earmuff connected to a second earmuff by a connector. Each of the first and second earmuffs are configured to receive an ambient sound and provide a dampened ambient sound to a wearer. The device also has a cable, with a cable length, that extends from the first earmuff to the second earmuff. The cable is coupled to the connector by a connection assembly. The connection assembly comprises a plurality of connection mechanisms arranged in a connection plan. Such a hearing protection device gives more freedom of placing the cable in a compact arrangement.

Abstract: A headset that can detect the voice activity of a user includes an inner microphone generating an inner microphone signal; an outer microphone generating an outer microphone signal, wherein the inner microphone and outer microphone are positioned such that, when the headset is worn by a user, the inner microphone is disposed nearer to the user's head; and a voice-activity detector determining a sign of a phase difference between the inner microphone signal and the outer microphone signal and generating a voice activity detection signal representing a user's voice activity when the sign of the phase difference indicates that the outer microphone received an audio signal after the inner microphone received the audio signal.
