The invention relates to the field of natural biofilms for extending the freshness of food and slowing down the ripening and water loss. In particular, Applicants surprisingly provided a edible post harvest fruits, vegetables, cut flowers or seeds preservative coating composition in the form of an oil in water (O/W) emulsion and its use as a biofilm for extending the freshness and/or slowing down the ripening and/or water loss of post harvest fruits, vegetables, cut flowers or seeds.

An antimicrobial composition used in produce, poultry, and meat processing is disclosed. The composition includes an alkylpolyglycoside having a formula: R-O-(G) n -H, wherein n is 1 to 2, G is a saccharide residue having 5 to 6 carbon atoms, and R is an alkyl group such that the alkylpolyglycoside has an average alkyl chain length of from 8-14. The alkylpolyglycoside is present in an active amount of from 0.01 to 8 weight percent based on a total weight of the composition. The composition also includes an antimicrobial agent chosen from organic acids, mineral acids, cetylpyridinium chloride, elemental silver and/or silver salts, and combinations thereof. The antimicrobial agent is present in an amount of from 0.002 to 2.5 weight percent based on the total weight of the composition.

Methods and apparatus for electrostatic dispensing fluid onto food products (FP) are disclosed. An electrostatic dispense system (100) includes a material supply (110), a voltage block (120), and a power supply (130) to electrostatically charge a coating material. The electrostatic dispense system (100) further includes a dispense assembly (140), a conveyor (150) through or by which a food product (FP) is configured to be conveyed, and a support (1602) that supports at least one liquid outlet (142) of the dispense assembly (140). The dispense assembly (140) dispenses the electrostatically charged coating material from the at least one liquid outlet (142) onto the food product (FP). The voltage block (120) provides electrical isolation, and includes a pump (122) that pumps the electrostatically charged coating material to the dispense assembly (140).

Le procédé comprend une étape de traitement au cours de laquelle un liquide contenant un produit ou un mélange de produits biocides et/ou phytoprotecteurs est évaporé et injecté dans l'atmosphère interne d'un local (2), le liquide étant évaporé à une température inférieure à 50°C, la concentration en vapeur de produit dans l'atmosphère interne du local (2) étant maintenue supérieure à 10% d'une concentration de saturation de la vapeur dudit produit dans ladite atmosphère à ladite température pendant une durée de saturation supérieure à 12 heures.

El presente desarrollo protege un método para la instalación y la operación de un sistema de control atmosférico dentro de un contenedor de transporte de carga con un dispositivo de control de atmósfera, donde el método de instalación comprende las etapas de: preparar un contenedor refrigerado nuevo o usado verificando la hermeticidad, instalación de un dispositivo de escotilla, instalación de una válvula de purga e inyección de gases en el contenedor y realizar una prueba de fugas; el método de operación considera cargar alimentos perecibles en el contenedor, instalar una cortina final, instalación de un dispositivo de válvula controladora de atmósfera en el dispositivo de escotilla, programación del dispositivo de válvula controladora de atmósfera, inyección de gases, transporte de alimentos perecibles, y recuperación del dispositivo de válvula controladora de atmósfera.

A dip tank and recycling system for applying antimicrobial solution to food items, including a dip tank having a bottom and sides, and holding a liquid antimicrobial solution. A conveyor to convey food items through the tank passes through the liquid antimicrobial solution held in the tank such that food items conveyed on the conveyor are dipped in the liquid antimicrobial solution. At least two discharge nozzles spray fresh antimicrobial solution into the tank. The discharge nozzles are located in the sides of the tank, and are positioned above the level of the conveyor but below an expected top level of the liquid antimicrobial solution contained within the tank such that food items conveyed on the conveyor are agitated by the force of the spray from the discharge nozzles. The spray from the discharge nozzles causes unstacking of items on the conveyor, producing an even application of the antimicrobial solution.
