    Abstract: A system for a medical device that can operate multiple actuated implements with sophisticated and individual motion profiles using a single user actuator. The system has a handle having a pair of slots for each implement and an actuator positioned in the handle for movement between a first position and a second position that has a groove for each implement. Each implement is coupled to the handle a barrel that is captured in the pair of slots and driven by the groove of the actuator. The shape of the pair of slots and the corresponding groove combine to provide a motion profile for the implement that is independent from any other implement having its own pair of slots and groove. Multiple implements may thus be driven simultaneously and can have complex and coordinated movement based on user operation of the single actuator.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a suturing needle having a thread attachment portion and a ramp portion comprising a tapered portion extending from a proximal end of the needle to cover at least a portion of a suture thread swaged in the thread attachment portion. The tapered portion of the ramp portion provides a smooth transition from a diameter of the suture thread to a diameter of the needle body. The tapered transition portion allows for engaging the suture needle on rollers of a rotational needle driver in one smooth motion. The suturing needle includes a hollow flexible extension component having a distal end and a proximal end, the distal end connected to the proximal end of the thread attachment component, and the proximal end attached to the distal end of the tapered extension ramp portion. The suturing needle can include a combination of flexible and non-flexible sections and/or a combination of straight and curved sections.

    Abstract: A needle assembly (20, 120, 220, 320) is provided that includes a needle (22) and a suture (24) coupled to the needle (22), and a needle guide tool (30, 130, 230, 330).     Abstract: A suture passing device includes a jaw assembly having both a loose suture capturing mechanism and a tight suture grasping mechanism. The jaw assembly includes a pair of jaw members biased to a default diverging configuration. At least one jaw member includes a hook that defines a closed loop and a dead-end channel for loosely receiving suture when the jaw assembly is in the closed position.     Abstract: A suturing needle having a substantially circular cross-section and a non-smooth profile, and methods of suturing with the needle using a rotational needle driver. The profile of the needle may include a plurality of indentations that form protruding ridges along a longitudinal length of the needle. These ridges may match grooves within rollers of the needle driver. The suture needle may further include a tapered transition portion extending from a proximal end of the needle to cover at least a portion of a suture thread transition portion on the needle. The tapered transition portion is flexible and provides a smooth transition from the suture thread diameter to the needle diameter, so that the rollers may engage the needle in one smooth motion.
