Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for producing pull-off closures (1) of the ring-pull type to close containers, in which a sheet of metallic material is cut and drawn to obtain a plurality of shells (3) each with a central closing wall (4) and a peripheral skirt wall (5) and in which each shell (3), after drawing, is scored to obtain at least one circumferentially extended score line (7, 9) that forms a preferential breakage line that is broken by pulling a tear element applied to the shell (3). The invention further relates to an apparatus for producing pull-off closures and to a pull-off closure.
Abstract:
A method for forming a deep draw closure cap, the method comprising: ˗ draw forming a first cup from a planar sheet of metal material defining a base thickness, the first cup including a first cup base, a first cup wall, and an open end; ˗ performing a first redrawing of the first cup to form a redrawn cup having a redrawn cup base and a redrawn cup wall, and an open end, the first redrawing; ˗ further passing the material through an ironing die, wherein the ironing die reduces the thickness of the redrawn cup wall at least adjacent the open end.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for forming a can end In a forming press (100) Including positioning a sheet: of material between an upper punch assembly (102) and a fixed base assembly (104); cutting a can end blank (W) from the sheet of material; clamping a peripheral portion of the can end blank (W); moving the upper punch assembly (102) to clamp a central portion of the can end blank (W) between an upper panel punch (114) and a Iower panel punch (118) to define a central panel section positioned below an annular Inner bead die (116c) located adjacent to the Iower panel punch (118) on the fixed base assembly (104); and extending the upper punch assembly (102) to form an Initial annular countersink radius (VI) next to the peripheral portion of the can end blank (W)} with a substantially undeformed intermediate area extending between the Initial annular countersink radius (VI) and the annular Inner bead die (116c). An alternative embodiment of the method described above and an apparatus for carrying out this method are also described.
Abstract:
A can end (12) includes a center panel (14), an annular portion (16) disposed about the center panel (14), a chuck wall (18) disposed about the annular portion (16), a curl (20) extending radially outwardly from the chuck wall (18), the annular portion (16) including an annular ridge (52) and an annular countersink (52), the annular countersink (52) disposed adjacent and about the annular ridge (50). The annular countersink (52) and the annular ridge (52) are structured to resist deformation from external or reverse pressure.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method of orienting and decorating container end closures is provided. More specifically, the present invention relates to apparatus and methods used to position container end closures in a predetermined orientation and then decorate a predetermined portion of the end closures.
Abstract:
A crown for a bottle or other container has a top portion and an annular skirt that descends contiguously from the top portion. An opener assembly and an arrangement of frangible scoring lines on the crown allow for ease of opening the bottle or container. Corrugated embodiments provide material strengthening for a reduced gauge crown. Embodiments include entire crowns formed of non-metal materials, metal crowns having non-metal opener assemblies, and metal crowns having opener assemblies that are partially metal and partially non-metal. Unique techniques for attachment of such various opener assemblies are also disclosed.
Abstract:
Abstract:
A method of creating blanks for metal containers and associated pieces of scrap from sheet metal by firstly indenting the surface of a metal sheet to a precise, pre-determined depth along a path corresponding to the periphery of each blank, but leaving the blank tethered along the path. Secondly, tearing the tether apart. The path of the indentation coincides with the path of the indentation of adjacent blanks.
Abstract:
There is disclosed herein a can end (10) for a can for pressurized contents, the can end being configured to be joined by a peripheral annular joining portion (24,26) to one axial end of a can body of the can and having an outer side arranged to face outwardly from the can and an inner side arranged to face inwardly into the can, the can end comprising: a central panel (18); a panel wall (20) annularly surrounding the central panel and extending axially inwardly and radially outwardly from the central panel; an annular chuck wall structure (12, 14, 50) extending radially- and axially-inwardly from the joining portion; and an annular bead (16) which is connected between a radially outer edge (38) of the panel wall and a radially inner edge (50e) of the chuck wall structure and which is concave with respect to the outer side of the can end and extends at least partially radially outwardly with respect to the radially inner edge of the chuck wall structure, wherein wall portions adjacent inner and outer ends of the concave annular bead (16) form a bead mouth (m) that is open towards the outer side of the can end.
