A novel continuous process is used for production of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) by catalytic chemical vapor deposition (CCVD) of methane on iron floating catalyst in-situ deposited on MgO in a fluidized bed reactor. In the hot zone of the reactor, sublimed ferrocene vapors were contacted with MgO powder fluidized by methane feed to produce Fe/MgO catalyst in-situ. An annular tube was used to enhance the ferrocene and MgO contacting efficiency. Multi-wall as well as single-wall CNTs were grown on the Fe/MgO catalyst while falling down the reactor. The CNTs were continuously collected at the bottom of the reactor, only when MgO powder was used. The annular tube enhanced the contacting efficiency and improved both the quality and quantity of CNTs. The SEM and TEM micrographs of the products reveal that the CNTs are mostly entangled bundles with diameters of about 20 nm. Raman spectra show that the CNTs have low amount of amorphous carbon with IG/ID ratios as high as 10.2 for synthesis at 900° C. The RBM Raman peaks indicate formation of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) of 1.0-1.2 nm diameter.

A medical instrument such as a guidewire that is designed to have controlled torque transmission along its length. Specially treated areas are placed in selected and equal areas along the entire length of the elongated shaft of the medical instrument, and are separated from one another by untreated areas. This process ensures that any torque is transmitted distally, in a smooth manner, regardless of the guidewire position, thus resulting in a substantial reduction in whipping. In one embodiment, a stainless steel guidewire is utilized, and is subjected to annealing heat treatment in selected areas. This annealing process creates a mandrel that has repeated temper properties along its length. Torque applied at one end of this mandrel is transmitted to the opposite end in an even and controlled manner, even when the mandrel is formed into a loop.

An application interface provides an environment in which applications may discover and attach to data streams. The interface facilitates efficient sharing and management of acquired data through arbitration and parallel processing: allowing multiple applications to work in parallel on the same or different data streams to implement independent or co-dependent functionality. Further, the interface acts as a bridge between system address spaces allowing applications to execute in their own address space separate from the resource intensive acquisition processes. The interface also provides an environment for prototyping applications where a user may allocate data streams to an application and debug the application's execution. Because the interface provides a standardized/normalized interface to the acquired image data, applications may be developed independent of the imaging system's implementation details, data formats and protocols.

In a method of operating a compressor at startup, the compressor is rotated in reverse for a brief period of time. The compressor is of a type that does not compress liquid when rotated in reverse. The purpose is to boil off the liquid refrigerant from the oil by heating and agitating the mixture of oil and refrigerant in the oil sump. This results in a much more benign forward start as less refrigerant is drawn into the compressor pump and the amount of oil pumped out of the compressor on start up is minimized. Also, the viscosity of oil is increased and lubrication of the bearings is improved. After a short period of time reverse rotation is stopped and the compressor can start rotating in the forward direction. The short period of time of reverse rotation is varied based upon system conditions. In one embodiment, the variation can occur by reducing the reverse run time as ambient temperature increases. In another embodiment, electrical conditions such as incoming voltage and/or a ratio of voltage to frequency can be utilized to change the reverse run time.

An inventive cargo securement device as described herein integrates a mesh tarp portion with a cargo net portion. In the preferred embodiment, the mesh tarp portion is overlaid upon the cargo net portion to create a substantially smooth, and snag-free side to the device, which allows for easier maneuvering over cargo loads without snagging. The side opposite the smooth side is a lattice work of longitudinal and latitudinal straps overlaid upon the mesh tarp portion and is attached thereto. In use, the lattice work side of the device preferably does not contact the cargo, but provides a foundation for attaching a plurality of anchor points located within the perimeter of the mesh tarp portion. By locating anchor points within the perimeter of the mesh tarp portion, ropes, hooks, winches or a combination thereof can be attached to the anchor points and any slack in the mesh tarp portion can be effectively gathered up. By removing as much slack as possible, this insures that the maximum amount of contacting surface of the device will be applied against a cargo load.

A storage rack system for storing items along the inside of a door. An open grid rack is attached to the inside of the door and can be used to support various structures configured to hold items such as handguns. Alternatively, a grid, comprised of structures configured as holsters, enables the storage of a large number of handguns in a small area. The open grid rack and the holster grid may be utilized to support items other than guns. The rack assembles are configured to be attached to the inside of a door, such as, for example, a gun safe door, by brackets or by other suitable attachment assemblies.
