PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an agarobiose-containing composition comprising a beverage containing agarobiose, having fine taste and stimulative taste-releasing effect and enhancing effect of the depth of sweetness, and to provide a method for producing the composition. SOLUTION: The method for producing the agarobiose-containing composition comprises steps of dissolving commercially available agar in desalted water to 10% w/v, adding strong cation exchange resin active type (H+) so as to attaino 1% w/v and subjecting to hydrolysis at 90°C for 3 hours, and cooling the mixture down to normal temperature, after reaction to conduct solid-liquid separation. The liquid thus obtained is subjected to active carbon treatment to eliminate colored substance, and the like, and is passed through a filter that has a pore size of 1 μm, with the pH thereof being adjusted by using 1NNaOH; and thereafter, the liquid is subjected to freeze dry treatment according to a common procedure.
