The blood collection set (10) includes an IV needle assembly (24), a length of flexible plastic tubing (46) extending from the IV needle assembly and a non-patient needle assembly (54). The set is formed with a venting mechanism that permits an outflow of air, while blocking an outflow of blood or other fluids. Thus, the venting mechanism enables air that had existed in interior portions of the blood collection set to be vented allowing for greater flash visualization on venous entry, and avoids the need to employ a discard tube.

A blood collection assembly includes a plasma-treated blood collection container (21) and a blood collector (20) which optionally may also be plasma-treated. The collector has a body portion (36) providing a blood passageway (37) between the container and a scoop shaped portion (38) which contacts a puncture wound. A vent (43) in the collector allows air displacement from the container when blood enters. Blood flow across the interior surface (29) of the plastic blood collection container (21) is enhanced by plasma treatment of the surface and by longitudinal ribs (30,30a) molded thereon.

A microsyringe includes an elongated hollow tube having no piston, plunger or the like positioned in its lumen. A needle cannula is at one end of the tube in fluid communication with the lumen. A connector hub is at the other end of the tube for attachment to a device for providing a fluid movement force into the lumen.

The application refers to a self-venting blood collection needle assembly (10) for the extraction of at least one fluid sample into an evacuated container for laboratory testing, this blood collection needle assembly providing a clear or translucent flashback chamber (302) for blood to flow into, for visualization by the user to confirm successful vein entry. The self-venting mechanism (303) permits escape of air during use, and which, typically, also prevents an outflow of fluid, such as blood. Thus, air under venous pressure will he allowed to escape from the blood collection needle assembly until blood reaches the venting mechanism.

A device and method is provided for separating heavier and lighter fractions of a fluid sample. The device includes a collection tube, a flowable liquid separation medium and a deformable container. A separation medium is contained within the deformable container and the deformable container is positioned within the collection tube and is deformably reconfigurable under centrifugation from a first condition permitting liquid collection within the tube to a second condition establishing physical separation between the separated liquid phases.

A blood microcollection container (12) and associated lancet-collection assembly is provided for making a puncture wound, engaging the wound and rapidly receiving blood from the wound. The assembly incorporates a lancet (125) together with a scoop arrangement for engaging the blood source, and for directing in a rapid and efficient manner the blood to a collection chamber (54). A two-positioned cap (20) is provided for sealing the scoop collector (18) of the assembly prior to use, and for permanently locking to the collector (18) after use to prevent exposure of the lancet and collector to the person handling the blood sample, or contamination of the blood sample from outside sources.
摘要:
An arrangement is provided for inducing rapid flow of a blood sample into a collection assembly for the sample, with the arrangement including an elongated member of narrow width positioned in the flow path of the blood from the source therefore to the collection area therefore. The member of the invention may be, for example, an elongated flat strip (18, 54), flexible or rigid, a solid rod (44), a solid strip (62, 64) square in cross section, or a tubular rod (60). The elongated device may be separate and positioned or adhered to a surface forming the blood flow path or it may be molded simultaneously with a collection assembly. The device may serve to provide a bridging transition from the surface of one part of an assembly to another. Finally, the device may be used to induce sample flow back and forth in a collection tube during mixing.
