    Abstract: A histologic tissue sample support assembly (10) includes a tissue cassette (12), a frame (14), and a lid (18). The tissue cassette (12) has a recess (11) including a body with at least one side wall (16a, 16b, 16c, 16d) and a bottom wall (12b) and is formed of material that can be successfully sectioned in a microtome and is resistant to degradation from solvents and chemicals used to fix, process and stain tissue. The tissue cassette (12) is movably coupled to the frame (14) by a frame-cassette connector (64). The lid (18) is coupled to a peripheral portion of the frame (14) by a lid-frame connector (36). The lid (18) and the tissue cassette (12) are capable of moving from a first position to a second position with respect to the frame (14), and in the second position the bottom wall (12b) and at least a portion of the side wall (16a, 16b, 16c, 16d) extend beyond a bottom edge (14e) of the frame (14) for sectioning in a microtome.

    Abstract: A specimen carrier includes an elongate member defining an external sealing surface and a support surface upon which a specimen can be carried, the elongate member including a first material having a first coefficient of thermal expansion. The specimen carrier further includes a cap configured to be passed over a portion of the elongate member to close a region of the cap that surrounds the specimen when the cap is passed over the portion of the elongate member, the cap defining an internal sealing surface formed complementary to the external sealing surface, and the cap including a second material having a second coefficient of thermal expansion that is greater than the first coefficient of thermal expansion. When the elongate member and cap are together placed in a cooling substance, the internal sealing surface of the cap compresses the external sealing surface of the elongate member to form a hermetic seal.

    Abstract: A device for limiting sample evaporation. The device has a vessel body having a body exterior surface and at least one body interior surface. The at least one body interior surface has one or more walls defining a first chamber, a second chamber and a conduit means. The first chamber has a first chamber opening for receiving at least one of the groups selected from a sample and a sample dispensing device. The first chamber opening defines the border of the body exterior surface and the body interior surface. The conduit means is in communication with the first chamber and the second chamber for receiving at least one of the group consisting of sample from said first chamber, a sample from a sample dispensing device and a sample dispensing device passing through or into the conduit means for placing the sample in the conduit means or into the second chamber. The second chamber is in communication with the conduit means for receiving and containing the sample from at least one of the group selected from the sample dispensing device and conduit means. The conduit means is arranged such that the sample in the second chamber is substantially isolated from the atmosphere to limit sample evaporation in the second chamber as the sample is contained therein.
