The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for combustion by chemical-loop oxidation reduction (CLC) of a gaseous hydrocarbon feedstock, for example natural gas consisting essentially of methane. According to the invention, catalytic steam reforming of the feedstock is carried out between two consecutive steps of combustion of the feedstock in contact with an oxidation-reduction active mass in particle form. The reforming catalyst is placed in a fixed bed in a reforming zone (130) between the two reduction zones (120, 140) in which the two combustion steps are performed.
