A bearing of a universal joint includes a cylindrical bearing cup fitted into a bearing hole, and a plurality of rolling elements aligned between the bearing cup and a shaft part. In a simulation step of the method for manufacturing the universal joint, a simulation is enacted of a compressed state when a sample bearing cup selected from the same lot is fitted into a reference hole of a reference jig and only the outside diameter is restricted. In a measurement step, the inscribed circle diameters are measured for a plurality of rolling elements held in the sample bearing cup in the simulated compressed state. In an outside diameter setting step, the outside diameter of the shaft part is set to an outside diameter of the shaft part needed for necessary radial gaps to be attained in accordance with the inscribed circle diameters. In a bearing cup insertion step, the sample bearing cup or a bearing cup in the same lot that has not undergone the measurement step is inserted along with the plurality of rolling elements between the shaft part and the bearing hole.

Support holes for a joint spider are formed at tips of the respective arms. The arms have respective inner surfaces facing each other in a second direction. Each of the inner surfaces includes a first recessed portion and a second recessed portion as viewed in a third direction orthogonal to the first direction and the second direction. The first recessed portions are recessed such that the distance between the inner surfaces of the arms increases from a start end located closer to an opening edge of each support hole toward an end point located closer to a base end of the arm. Each of the second recessed portions connects the end point to an end surface of a flange so as to form a curved surface.
