The present invention provides a connecting device for connecting an unhardened fiber layer which is arranged on a surface section of a fiber compound structure to the fiber compound structure. The connecting device comprises pressure cushion comprising a pressure cap for being arranged above the surface section and a pressure tight cap mat which is pressure tightly connected to a circumferential border of the pressure cap, thereby forming a pressure area which is limited by the pressure cap and by the cap mat. The connecting device further comprises a pressure inducing means for inducing an overpressure which presses the cap mat against the fiber layer into the pressure area. According to a further aspect the invention provides a processing method for processing a fiber compound structure. In a first step at least one unhardened fiber layer is arranged on a surface section of the fiber compound structure.

A method of forming a hardened skin on a surface of a molded article. In an exemplary method, a formable material is mixed with a blowing agent to form a foam material (20). The foam material (20) is placed in a flow molding apparatus (10) such that the top surface of the foam material is in contact with the top mold (16) of the apparatus and the bottom surface of the foam material is in contact with the bottom mold (18) of the apparatus. In operation, an alternating dielectric field is applied across the foam material (20) to form the molded article. At the end of the molding cycle, the bottom surface of the foam material (20) remains under the decomposition temperature of the blowing agent so as to form a hardened skin on the molded article.

Making foamed bodies by introducing a biodegradable polymer mixture into a mould (10) in which it is heated to form a foam and to fill the mould. The mould is defined between two opposed parts (12, 14) that mate together, and each mould part is of electrically conducting material, and the moulding surfaces are coated with an electrically insulating material (16). Radio-frequency signals are applied (25) between the mould parts (12, 14) so that the polymer mixture is heated by dielectric heating, so a foam tray is formed in less than 15 s. This provides a more rapid cycle time than using heated moulds. The radio frequency signals may be 27.12 MHz, or 40.68 MHz. The polymer may be starch-based.

A method of providing a bent tube made of a heat sensitive e.g. thermoplastics material includes the step of causing the circumferential wall of the tube (2) to be selectively heated, such as by high frequency excitation, whereby the parts (9) of the circumferential wall corresponding to the inside and outside of the bend of the bent tube are heated more than the remaining parts (10) of the circumferential wall.
